Right now it feels like a fall morning. Sky is overcast and it actually feels a little chilly. Weird weather for here, this time of year. Seems like the perfect time to listen to some of that Halloween music on Spotify. Every time I go into a store I walk around to see if they are putting out any Halloween merch yet. The Walmart I stopped at yesterday was clearing out shelves where they usually put the stuff so I think it's getting close. I think that bug is crawling up my pant leg.

JonH, something I think you may like...

Well, now that it's mid August, and Halloween merchandise is being sold in a lot of stores already, I guess I have the "bug," right now. I still have quite a few more motorcycle rides to go on, and barbecues to hold, but all in all, the 'big day' is just around the proverbial corner, and the end of next month (September) is my 'official' kick-off to the Halloween season.

Time to start getting my house in order to set up the decorations.

next weekend we'll start pulling out props from our shop, storage, and the woods (where I store all my cemetery stuff)

Like I said, after some major house cleaning, I'll be putting up Halloween around the end of September.

I did manage to get a few orange smoke bombs last June, so I'll be lighting off some of them for the ToTers this year. I also found some interesting glow sticks that I can use for insid my outside jack o'lantern. The wind keeps blowing the candle out.

Last year I replaced my real candles with the battery operated kind that flicker. The kids had said nothing about my pumpkins when they were lit with the real thing, but as soon as I put the battery-operated "candles" in there, everyone started noticing them. For some reason, the candles weren't giving off much of a glow, but those battery-operated ones that flicker are very satisfactory, I've found.

Murf, all though I prefer to use real candles for my indoor candles, it's really not practicle to use them for my outdoor pumpkins because A. there's too much ambient light for it to be noticed, and the battery operated ones tend to give off more light, and B. the wind, even a small brease keeps blowing the candle out. Last year I used one of those color changing battery operated lights. This year I am going to experiment with some glow sticks. I also have a few orange and yellow smoke bombs to light off for the ToTers.

It's also nice to use some type of artificial lighting outside because of the fire hazard, whether you are concerned about the little ones coming onto your porch in their longish costumes, or want to leave yourself for a bit. I would never leave a real flame unattended, but I can leave the battery-lit pumpkins with no fear.

That's a good point, too. I usualy leave my front door opened, and just close the outter screen door during ToT, but I also don't like to leave any open flame or appliances that heat up, such as an electric roaster or frying pan unattended. I never leave my house when I use my fireplace. If I plan to have a fire in the fireplace, I make sure that I have everything that I will need. I make sure that both my vehicles are gassed up for the next day. I make sure that there is enough decent food in the house so I can just stay home for the evening.
