MacPhantom, I have actualy started a few new TRADITIONS in my day, but I would never go alont with it at the expense of an old and loved TRADITION. A lot of people live in apartments, and I would probably prefer a fake electrical fire place to nothing at all, but I would hate it if I had to give up my real fireplace to have that fake thing in my house.
Sueloves, I have nothing against gas log fireplaces per se. Some people love them. My brother and sister both swear by theirs, and you really can't tell the difference between the gas log and the real thing, but there's nothign like a TRADITIONAL blazing log that you stoke yourself. Please pardon me for sounding like such a sentimental old bitty, but it seems that TRADITION can't die fast enough, and what few we still have, some of my siblings want to kill it off as fast as possible.

Heck, I don't even have a heater in my place.
Only crazy people live in Scottsdale or if they are above a certain tax bracket, 'eccentric'.

I hear ya, mate. Matter of fact.... The temp dropped twenty degrees overnight... I think I'll have a fire this evening! Nothing like it, is there.....

Mac i love a good fire! the house i moved into has a killer fire place in it.. it really is too big for the living room but who am i kidding... you can never have a fire place that's too big haha
i've also spent time landscaping (as you may know) a nice stone path to an "are you afraid of the dark" style fire pit. we've spent a MANY of nights out there

The better to dispose of the bodies of your enemies.....
What sort of stones did you go with...? Concrete pavers? Slate? Is it a full walkway, or stepping stones?

there enbankment stones that land developers use to pack down a bank and keep it steady... they're perfectly white and i collected hundreds lol its a full path that leads down to the pit which is fully circled in with these rocks and the fire pit too (of course) is circled in..
i'm not sure what they're called though

they were free (well i didn't get caught) so i'm not complaining haha

Same difference...
That sounds pretty awesome... I did see your pics of the party at the pit, but I don't remember seeing the walkway....

I also have a burning spot in my back yard for when I want to scratch that "itch" during the Summer time. I also have weenie roasts out in the back yard during the warm weather seasons, and in my livingroom during the cold weather seasons.
I had a stump from an unwanted tree in my back yard that I wanted to get rid of. I got rid f it by pouring diesel fuel all over it, stacking dry wood all around it, and putting a matchto it. Now there's no sign that there ever was a tree there to begin with. Just a small pile of ashes which will be totaly gone come March.

Assuming I where the type to decorate my house for "that holiday", it would most likely
look something like the house on the right.
