Not just stoned hippies get brainwashed by people like him. When it comes to murder I think truly insane people have no concept of right or wrong. He was fully aware of what he was doing. Now his followers I"m not so sure about.

yes, but in this specific case, they were a bunch of stoned and STD ridden hippies. I'm not saying that just because they were scum, they really were infected with STDs as documented (which can cause the brain to not work properly). But again, if you havent seen a Manson interview watch one, I'm sure there are some on utoob, he has a way of speaking that is kind of magical in an insane way, but again, young, stoned, outcast, young people with no world experience could easily fall for the BS and follow.
Just a side note on the STD thing, when the Manson family was "living" with Dennis Wilson of the beach boys the family used Wilsons doctor for their ganaria treatments and the doctor was quoted to say they had the highest STD treatment bill he ever saw.

I've seen a few interviews. I was watching a doc on Manson and I think I remember them mentioning the STD thing. I wonder how widespread STD's were back then. Gross...
I've never heard of them effecting your brain but that's a pretty interesting concept. It makes sense I guess. I'm off to go read up on gonnorhea and hope the wife doesn't look through the browser history afterwards.

In interviews I've watched, Manson comes across exactly like clips of paranoid schizophrenics I've seen. In fact, my brother has a friend named Chuck who reminds me of a non-violent Manson. His train of thought constantly skews off on tangents that make perfect sense to him, but to everyone else they seem random and bizarre.

Spooky, Manson had a lot of people under his "spell," who were not "stoned hippies." He even recorded a song with one of the original Beach Boys, and made a record of his own which is actualy available on line some place. There is actualy a movement to free him, and he has followers joining every day. They claim that Charles Manson is innocent of any crimes. Go Figure.

I know not all of them were, but at that time, most were. as I indicated in my post ^^^ yes he was friends with one of the beach boys and yes he did record a song with them, he even wrote a song for the Beatles, as for any movement to get him free'd now.......first I've heard of it and they must also be outta their mind on something....

STDs was a common among criminals for a long time, and probably still is. The infamous Al Capone died of Syphalis in 1948. He was released from prison early because of his sickness. There was no cure for Syphalis back then, so the desease ate away his mind, and he became a babling idiot who use to fish in his swimming pool.
