Another part of me remembers the lonely times and wants to say " No matter how many friends one has or how close you get to them we all experience the world from beginning to end alone." No one else sees with your eyes or hears with your ears so there is value in your solitude. I suppose it comes down to ones attitude.
Think about Vampires or even Immortals. (ala Highlander) They have power and the potential for eternal life, but most don't survive. As Armand said in Interview w/a Vampire so few vampires have the spirit to stand immortality. They have all the time in the world but they don't know how to live.
Then you have good old Duncan Macleod The Highlander. He was cast out by his family, watched thousands of people die in the futility of war, saw many a loved one go down to the grave. He is constantly hunted and always fighting for his life, but he knows how to live.
He spends his time training mentally, spiritually, and physically. He collects art and studies history. And of course, being fictional, he spends alot of time saving people from other immortal bad guys.(Who by the way are not nearly so well balanced) Still it's a noble way to spend ones time.
This is just my long-winded way of saying yea we all want to be dazzled by life, but even the little things can be grand with the right outlook. Now if only I could bottle "bright outlook"....

So to get into the Halloween Spirit are you suggesting taking down all the vampire props and replacing them with poorly accented Canadian Scots? :D :D

If it scratches the itch. The threads drifting from Halloween spirit to meaning of life.
But if dressing up as Duncan Macleod or as my friends call him "The greasy meatball man"
should bring one closer to the spirit of Halloween then why throw stones. The only question is with pony tail or without.

Whilst you're not exactly filling me with the Halloween spirit, you are certainly scaring me. Lamert + Pony tail = Terror!!!!!!

Last night I went down to the barn (it's for storage, no critters) and grabbed a tub of Dept56 houses and set them up in the house.

It was simple but made my day!

Tonight it's back to the ban for a box of colored lights!!

Hang in there, mate.
and doesnt' that saying just make you feel terrible?... we do spend a TON of time making plans.. we spend days... weeks even planning for one event that could only last a couple of hours... the next thing we know.. those weeks are gone and so is whatever that event was... sad world
That's exactly where I am with this. I've been anticipating Halloween since late July. Three months of build up comes down to one day, and when it's over, the melancholy sets in. Sure, I ease the pain by going to stores and buying a bunch of Halloween stuff for up to eighty percent off the original price, but that's like taking tylenol for a third degree burn. That's why this week is bittersweet for me. On the one hand, my favorite day of the year is nearly here. But on the other, that just means it's almost over. I can't stand being this way. This week should be fun, not sad. And I guarantee that on Halloween night I'll be looking at the clock a bunch of times to see how close we are to midnight. I'll do that until I've had several rum and cokes, anyway. It helps to know I'm not alone in feeling this way, though.

You know what, though? It seems like only yesterday that I was feeling the Post Halloween Blues '08, and the next thing you know, Halloween '09 is three days away! The entire year flies by so quickly, there just isn't any time for prolonged melancholy.

Grimsly Manor, Madame M's costume shop, and a family of costumed revelers. I don't own them, I just have visiting rights ;-)

Well, Im officially over my pre-Halloween depression.
Now I'll just focus on having fun with the season while I still can.
I know there will be a huge let down when the big day is over, but that's just the way it is.
Until then, I'll be watching as many horror movies as I can and getting ready for our party.

I wasn't even sure if I would bother carving a pumpkin this year. I just wasn't feeling up to it. I started on it today and only have a little work to do to finish it up.
