I am actually a big fan of the Martha Stewart Halloween ideas. You can look online or pick up her catalog for Halloween. She had some really great silhouette ideas (bats and mice) that were a little time consuming but pretty cheap. You can also do wonders with cheese cloth that has been soaked in tea for coloring.
When we have our party we usually have a lot of lights, fake spider webs, a couple fog machines and a little creepy music. One year I went to the good will and got some floral print sheets then splattered them with fake blood and threw them over the couches. It was a really cool effect and helped keep my furniture clean!!

So far we're doing cheese cloth for tableclothes (thanks Martha), dry ice on the food table, trying to make some Martha spider sacs, and I ordered creepy candy (vomit, road kill, spider sacs) from Oriental Trading for the tables. DH is in charge of carving pumpkins -- again Martha's mag had great ideas there too.
I LOVE HALLOWEEN!
