Ok, so we went and saw this movie last Friday nite. It was okay, just OK. I think Robert Englund could have done a better job, but I understand they wanted to give Freddy a new look. On a scale from 1 - 10, I would give it a 6. Not one of the better remakes, in my opinion, but still worth seeing it.
Anyway I got very funny message from one of the guys, so I've attached a copy of his message shown below:
Is this Part 52, or what? Have they lost count, or are they too embarrassed to admit they keep making the same movie over and over again? This one claims to be a "re-imagining" rather than a remake of the original, and it arrives with no numerical identity. The most interesting aspect is that Jackie Earle Haley, is now cast as Freddy Krueger, the serial rapist and murderer who kills people in their sleep, which means they get the same treatment in real life. He still wears a glove with sharp blades in place of fingers. Haley dates back to the classic cycling movie "Breaking Away" and, more recently, made an Academy Award-nominated comeback as a child molester. Is he typecast? One hopes not.

saw it last week and was fairly pleased
in the wake of many recent child <deleted> abuse scandals, it's definitely providing social commentary by making freddy a murdered child molester turned teenage-killing phantasm
in the original, however, he was a murdered child killer turned teenage-killing phantasm
i don't like the change
do you
i, for one, never found fred krueger to be a scary horror villian
he always seemed to comical to be considered truly frightening
but i have always enjoyed the film series and storyline
in my opinion, haley's freddy was a little scarier than englund's

I just watched the original for the first time on YouTube. Now I guess I'm ready for the remake. First I need some money and a drivers permit......

I did see the remake, and I will say that I was a little dissappointed, but they did a pretty good job of developing the story of how Freddy Krueger became what he was. They also further developed the 'child molester' aspect to Freddy Krueger, and it gave us an insight into the monster. The cinematography was okay, but could have been better. What I didn't like about it was the somber way the movie was presented. In the original, Freddy attacked normal kids. In the remake, it seemed that everyone was living in a dark, brooding world of sadness and misery.

i haven't gotten around to seeing it
i hope i'm not disappointed.. though i've never really been a big freddy fan (i'm more of myers guy) but my brother saw it and liked it so that gives me hope

I saw it when it was at the theater, and it was okay - but not really good. I only did like the 1984 version the best than this remake. Still, I did like to see that Freddy was the original guy in the first movie before he got burnt up. Well, why didn't they do like that in the 1984 movie??

Like I said, in the remake, everyone was living in this dark and somber world. A lot fo them were victims of Freddy Krueger when he was still alive, and were fighting their own demons even before the "dream monster" Freddy came on to the scene. In the original, you had normal kids doing normal things, when "the dream monster" starts picking them off one by one. What I liked about the remake is that the Freddy Krueger story was better developed but the characters just weren't for real.
