Right or wrong, the cops have the upper hand. The law, courts, parole boards, prison officials, politicians, government and the majority of the people are on their side. Back in the 60s, it was "cool" to dis cops and call them "the fuzz," or "pigs," but now a days, especialy after the 9/11 attacks, cops are looked at as "American heros," much like war veterens and fire fighters are. What authority that was not given to the police through Bush Sr's War on Drugs, was given to them by the Patriot Act and the 9/11 after math.
In short, there's no way of beating a cop at their own game. And they do have a very dangerous and often thankless occupation. I personaly do think that some of them are heros, and there should be laws prohibiting them being assulted. I don't buy into the mythology that surrounds them, mind you, but I do respect the occupation. We need law enforcement so we can be safe in our homes, not have everything we work for stolen from us, and to maintain society. Without law and order, there is no civilization. Life would be like it was in the Dark Ages, right after Rome fell, or like it's depicted in the "Mad Max" movies.
