Black Widows are all over, especially in dry climates like so. Cal.....we had a lot of them there

yup, males are gray and smaller, you usually only find the legs from the males because the female eats them after mating...

I stop dusting the house for webs in August so there are plenty of the real deal hanging in the corners.

Plus, autumn is when the flies come out in droves (all of the neighbors have horses) so there is a practical benefit as well.

Here's the friend I found in my back yard. My husband and I figured it was a Wolf Spider... of course, we let ours live because it was outside. =P

.... though, I kill all the Black Widows I find-- killed maybe 10-or-so when I first moved into my house.
