Heh heh heh... I never said you said it didn't exist! I'll tell you one thing, though. When it comes to figuring out how bad racism still is in America, I'm certainly not going to depend on the experiences of you and me, two white guys!!

In October of 2008, someone drove by my house and shouted a racial epithet at me because of my Obama yard signs. I was utterly shocked, but when I mentioned it down at the local Democratic headquarters, some of the African American folks down there just shook their heads and chuckled. "You have no idea", they told me, and I realized they were right. I've lived in this town for 23 years, and I had no idea.

well, being white the only racism I have experienced is at the hands of overly sensitive black people who think everything "whitie" says is racist. I also dont have any black friends, I live mostly in white areas and simply dont know any black people personally so I never really discuss these things with them. But I really do believe that it isnt as bad as it used to be and I think a lot of these things are products of over sensitiveness.
But hey, like you said, I'm not black and I might just be talkin out my <censored>.

Actually, being "white" I've seen a lot of racism towards whites... In college, I couldn't get copies of past tests at one student center because I "wasn't a minority". I also couldn't get "free tutoring" that was available to non-white students. There aren't as many college scholarships for white males or white females as there are for other races. Whites can't make stereotypical jokes about other races without being called "racist". White's don't count for anything under "affirmative action". They desegregate schools to make them "less-white".... and, in Southern Arizona public schools (at least 'till that House Bill goes into effect in late July), teachers were teaching and disciplining on the basis of race.

If anything, the pendulum is slipping the other way... instead of balancing the situation, people have started demanding more and more and more "civil rights". Where does the line get drawn? Shouldn't there be opportunities for everyone regardless of their race?

The fact that race is still being used as a determining factor for scholarships and other things ensures that race based discrimination will continue.

I've experienced that exact reverse discrimination all through my college career. I was done out of educational oportunities and employment oportunities because "afirmative action" was looking for a female, or a Black person or a person of Hispanic decent. That's NOT to say that I have anything against people of those races. On the contrary, I have a lot of black friends, and one of my best friends is a Mexican American, but I was DISCRIMINATED AGAINST because of my skin color. I didn't get put into a concentration camp. I was not enslaved, and I was not refused the use of a tiolet or service at a lunch counter, but I was told very plainly and very often that I "owe" women and minorities something, which I do NOT agree with. OH, AND BY THE WAY, I was refused admission into the Navey and the Army because I didn't pass the vision test. As far as I know, you STILL have to pass a vision test and have binocular vision to get into any branch of the armed services, and I also hear-tell that the Airforce and NASA require UNCORRECTED 20/20 VISION in order to work in any capacity.

If THAT'S not descrimination, what is???

no, you dont have to have 20/20 to be in the air force or Army, I worked with a lot of people both male and female that wore glasses in the air force, but to be a pilot you must have perfect vision, many of those guys have better then 20/20....I knew one test pilot that had 20/15.....

I don't have binocularity. My corrected eye sight is pretty good, but my eyes are crossed (myopia). I can only see out of one eye at a time, either my right or my left. I can not see out of both simultaniously, so I don't have binocular vision. I do actualy have deph perception, though it's not as good as if I could see binocularly. That was the basis for not admitting me into the armed services. This was way back in the early 80s, though, when was young. Now a days, I'm almost 50,....and....oh,......that brings me to another point. AGE DISCRIMINATION. I am going to be 50 next month. I hear that age discrimination is going to get worse as our so called 'advanced civilization' continues to grow.
