i loath valentines day
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

I have to admit, that Velentines day is a bit cheesy, and the main reason why it's observed at all, is because greeting card companies make a big deal of it to boost their winter sales, but there was a time, when I was a little kid that I had fun handing out those little valentines at school. We all handed them out to everyone, and we all got one from everyone. I would go to school on valentines day with 30 some odd copies of exactly the same little greeting, and would come home with 30 somneodd different ones. That lasted until the 5th grade.

"Charlie Brown," was also an integral part of Valentines Day, and my mom also use to make a heart shaped chocolate cake with pink icing. It was pretty neat, but certainly no Halloween by any stretch of the imagination. I also use to make a bigger deal of it when I dated, but now a days, Valentines day is a day that I might have a piece of candy and a doughnut, and watch "Charlie Brown." It's a nice way to break up the doldrums a little. Besides that, my niece allways sends me a nice card, but it's not like I look forward to it with the same anticipation as other holidays. The good news is that February is half over at that point, which means that we are getting closer and closer to Spring and Motorcycle Riding Season.

Call me a curmudgeon, but it's all to make more money for the candy and card companies. Both of which possess more money than God.

Not to mention it puts undue stress upon the male contingent as it is the same time of year as the "Sadie Hawkins Dance" (God help me. :roll: ) where I have to pray to whatever benevolent being that spins the various wheels of the universe that I get asked by some girl that ISN'T weird/insane/gets-around and not look like a complete prick when I reject the invitation of a girl whom falls into the undesirable category as stated.

As for the holiday itself, I think it's good. The traditions associated with it? Stupid, stressful and made for money, money, money.

You know, this may sound pretty aweful, but when I think of Valentines Day, the first thing that pops into my head is Al Capone, and the St. Valentiens Day Massachre.

As for the holiday, I don't stress about it at all. In fact, more often then not, I actualy forget about it, but in observance of Valentines Day, I do watch the Charlie Brown programs that are Valentimes Day themed.

As it turns out, Valentines Day falls on a Sunday this year, and I have a photo shoot. Double time, with a minimum of 4 hours. I doubt I'll even be there for one hour. That's 8 hours pay for almost but not quite 1 hour of work. HAPPY VALLENTINES DAY TO ME!!!

oh valentines day... i'm sorry wallet... we promised each other last year that it'd be just us again by this Feb... but it seems the woman has stayed... i'm sorry
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

I have to beg to differ with you on that one, Adrian. You might spend as much mondy at the grocery store as you would at a restaurant, but for the money you are paying at the grocery store, you will have 3 or 4 meals, where as when you go out, you only get one. For instance, if you go out to a nice restaurant, you can spend 20 or 30 dollars. That same 20 or 30 dollars will buy you breakfast, lunch and dinner for several days at the grocery story.

Take it from a guy who knows. I darn near went broke eating out. Even fast food, if you eat there two or three times a day can add up into huge bucks. That's why I learned how to cook.
