wall sconce

Post by Spookymufu » Mon Sep 28, 2009 8:04 pm

well, I dont know if this is the right place, I cant see a "props" area.....

I saw the wall sconce at http://www.hauntershangout.com and had to have one.

I've started working on it, actually I am about half done, the original used electric flicker candles but mine will hold a PVC candle.

Heres pics of the arm, shackles, and candles so far :)

heres the candle, I guess the limit is 3......

the arm is a PVC "bone" with wire hanger fingers then I used newspaper to bulk it up and masking tape to form the wrinkles, knuckles, etc. I have put two coats of latex on the arm so far and I think I'll do two more.

that arm is pretty B.A. how much did it cost?
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

hey adrian,
well, the roll of tape was about $3 and I havent used too much of that, the newspaper was free, the PVC was probably $1 only used about a foot of a 10ft piece, the latex was $12 for the jar but I havent used much so maybe another $0.50, the wire hanger was out of my wifes closet :), so really less then $4.50.

I still need to paint it so factor in paint costs.....:)

I bought the latex at Hobby Lobby, it's called Mold Builder (16oz), it was $12.99, Michael's carries it also. If you use it, buy a bunch of cheap brushes because you cant clean them in between uses. I bought a 50 pack of foam brushes for $5. I suspect bristled brushes work best but 50 for $5 is worth it.

I dont know anything about making molds or masks so I dont know if this latex is good for that or not, but it works good for coating newspaper and tape corpse arms ;)

it seems very involved from what I have read, and I just dont think I could carve anything that looks like much of anything, but I'm pretty sure it would look scary :)

well, it's rubber so if you coat something with it, it's water proof as far as I know.
