That's all the more reason why I LOVE my town so much. Not only do the schools, but the entire town goes all out for Halloween, Thanksgiving AND Christmas. 'Political correctness' has no place in Dwight Ill.

Ill. sounds like so much fun.. i'm gong to have to check it out one day seeming how i've never been there :)
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

I'll have to check it out. I think there is a Halloween festival of some sort, but I'm not sure. I know that the town istelf does a lot of Halloween decorating. My Halloween decorations are modest compared to others, but my old house is a Halloween decoration in and of itself.

I remember Halloween seemed to be a much bigger deal back then (before everything was so politically correct) and we always had things like Halloween parties in our classes where everyone could dress up and we all made Halloween crafts and food. At my particular school we had a festival every year at the beginning of October called the "Halloween Extravanganda", where everyone came in costume and Halloween games were played and candy was given out at the school. Looking back, these memories most likely sparked my love for Halloween and the fall season and I will certainly never forget them.

Did anyone else have any special memories from childhood pertaining to Halloween that you can especially remember that could have helped spark love for Halloween? Please share.

In my Elementary school, we had something called the "5 days of Halloween". Everyday we would do something as a class like the first day we would do a craft, the next we would all tell stories, etc. Then on the fith day we would all dress up into our costumes, invite the parents and carve pumpkins and eat a ton of junk food and get wired before the night haha It was my favourite week of the entire school year. Unfortunatly when I left for Middle school, that is when the whole "politically correct" additude came in and my poor younger sister couldn't enjoy the same fun and well my middle school was as bland and boring as could be lol

Anyways eventhough I'm not in school anymore, I still dress up and enjoy halloween like everyone else and I will do the same with my children so they can make has many memories as I did when I was little :)

Cheers,
Kate

That five days of Halloween sounds like a lot of fun Kate!

We'll I happened to find a few yearbooks from my elementary school and I found an entire two pages in each yearbook that just focused on Halloween at our school. The pictures were so great and brought back so many memories.

I remember dressing up every year for the Halloween party in elementary school. Unfortunately due to the current hypersentivity we have in this country, they don't have those parties here anymore.

Actualy the town does not have a Halloween Festival, but there are 'haunted houses' in the general area. We can go to Joliet and see the Haunted Statesville Prison attraction. I also plan to have a bonfire some time in October, or we can hop on my bike or in my car and make a trip to Bachelors grove.

But as you have to make financial considerations, I also have to look at my work schedule. I have a play to video tape on the first Friday of October, and on the first Saturday I have another engagement. As for weekdays, my work hours are Mon through Thurs 10:30 am to 7:00 pm, and 8 to 4:30 on Friday. So if you can make it, we'll have to set something up so I can be there for you.
