Re: costume idea
I always go as a ghost.
It's easy. You RSVP to a party, and then don't show up

All you that doth my grave pass by,
As you are now so once was I,
As I am now so you must be,
Prepare for death & follow me.

Re: costume idea
I LOVE your costume idea! How did you decide on it? =D
Your post makes me want to work harder to finish my costume...
I've been working on my costume since about February... doing pirates this year. I'm sewing a pirate coat. I don't have a lot of free time, but I've been forced to hand-sew 12 3-inch lengths of 1/4" trim around button holes... and I was also a dork who made the hole in the hem on the far side of the coat... so it's taking a while. It's a super-sweet jacket... it'll be really nice to wear in the winter when I'm done. It's a dark brown corduroy with embroidered red suede on the outside and for the accent colour, respectively. The inside is a cotton print on a burgandy fabric with black silk for the accents. The pockets are a dark green suiting (made from leftovers of my husband's fabric). I also have really swell buttons. ^_^
I do have a couple cutlasses (one for me, one for my husband), boots, a hat I'm borrowing from my sister-in-law... and a white frilly shirt (though I may make one out of muslin if I can find the time).
I just cut out fabric to make poofy pants. I need to cut out fabric for a stay/corset top. I was planning on using more of that embroidered suede (outside) and the burgandy cotton print (lining).
... I've also started making paper mache bombs which are like little pinatas that will be filled with candy. They're pretty fun! =D
