Stereo Discussion and Poll

Post by Pumpkin_Man » Fri May 08, 2009 3:49 pm

Hi Folks:

I added a discussion for all the car and motorcycle people here, like myself, but I am also an audiophile, and I'm sure there are others amongst the good members of Halloween.com who also enjoy listenign to good music, and I thought it would be interesting to find out what sorts of equipment people like to hear their favorite tunes on.

I own a really nice iPod, which is great for when I'm mowing the lawn or taking a walk in the neighborhood, but when I really want to jam out, I prefer to listen to my main stereo system which is in my living room. I have a Sunfire vaccum tube preamp, with a 600x2 Sunfire power amp driving a par of B & W Nautilus 8021s, and a Mesa Baren vaccume tube power amp driving a pair of Zerius Triangles. I absolutely can't get over the way this system sounds, and I've had it for almost 10 years.

My main musical source is a Rotell CD player, capable of runing HDCD, but I also have a turn table and a rather extensive collection of lps.

So I thought I would try to get a feel for what kind of audio equipment you people like to play around with, for thos of you who are into audio.

Since I'm as deaf as a post I prefer my Sansa MP3 player through Sony sport in-the-ear phones. It has a 5 channel EQ that really brings music to life for me.

My car has a Monsoon, 8 speaker, 200 watt do-it-all system that is great for scaring the be-jesus out of people at stop lights. :-)

My housemates have all Krell and Rotel hardware putting out lethal decibals through multiple B&W's on both floors and most of the rooms. sorry I don't know the model #'s...

Rotel makes some fabulous gear. I love my Rotal CD player, and I've had ot for 9 years. B & W also makes some fabulous speakers for sound quality, but they tend to be a little less efficient then other brands.

As much as I am in to audio, the stereo in my car is a joke compared to some others that I've heard.

I think B&W makes some of the most beautiful speaker housings. They're practicaly sculptures.

Their Rotel manages all of the speakers throuout the house but frankly, I need a cheat-sheet to operate most of it!

I do like the way my 802s look. That design also makes them sound better.

I allways keep the manuals in an easy to find spot so in case I have to do some function that I don't do very often, it's there. After you've been operating that equipment, however, it should become 2nd nature. Like driving a car.

Andy, there are those who theorize that cars will be driving themselvs in the years to come. You will just enter an address or name of a town into the on board computer and the Satlight Navitation system takes over. They even had a special on itg on the Science channel. The winner gets 2 million dollars. The challenge was to build a robotic car that can drive itself safely.

As for stereos, thney are no more complicated than a PC or MAC. It's allways a good idea to read the owners manual for any electronic equiipment you buy, but for me, the most difficult thing about operating my stereo was finding the CD or record I want to play.
