How much do pumpkins cost where you live?

Post by california ghoul » Tue Aug 12, 2008 1:02 pm

I've seen some really neat yard displays with loads and loads of pumpkins and I was just wondering if people spent hundreds of dollars to do those displays or if pumpkins are really cheap in different parts of the country. My fiance and I live in Northern California and last year we spent $10 on a medium sized pumpkin. How much do pumpkins cost where you live?

Hey ghoul, where are you two at? I'm in La Honda/Palo Alto.

Have you gone to Arata's farm just south of Half Moon Bay? They're the oldest one on the coast.

We're down in Santa Clara and go to a little makeshift pumpkin patch down the road. I went to one of the Halfmoon Bay patches back in elementary school...it was so much fun! Maybe we should do that this year!

Maybe about 5 bucks. I'm not sure.

I also suppliment my pumpkin squad with a least one 'kin from the supermarket, it reminds me of being a little kid 'cause my folks would buy me one even though we grew our own in our garden.

I also like the great big patch rigt off of HWY 1, a bit north of Arata's because it's so impressive.

You can tell it's pumpkin harvest time when you start to see splattered pumpkins along the highway that have fallen off of the big trucks on their way to market!

It's awful here in Los Angeles. A good size one will run you $17 or more.

It really depends on where you go. I usually get mine at Walmart...but this year I'm getting a free one ^^;

Just depends on where you go. At Wal-Mart they're like 3 bucks. At a farmer's market a normal sized one is like 6 to 8 bucks or so. You can easily find big very nicely shaped ones for well under 10 dollars here.

There use to be a shop I use to go to since I was about 13. Sadly, it closed last year. Instead of using money to pay for a pumpkin, they'd make you pay with canned food that would be sent over to our soldiers. They use to have good pumpkins too.

How big are the Walmart ones? Like supermarket size because those usually aren't big enough for our patterns.

I don't believe we have any commercial pumpkin growers here in southern Nevada but we do have pumpkin patches where the pumpkins are shipped in from up north and CA. Some local stores advertise any size pumpkin (small, medium, large - but not huge) for as low as $2.98 each, grocery stores currently selling for @ $.39 a pound.
