Halloween Specialty Magazines

Post by demon gal » Mon Sep 08, 2008 3:17 pm

The specialty (and might I say OVERPRICED) magazines are hitting the newsstand shelves.

So far I have picked up Better Homes and Gardens Halloween tricks & treats and Women's Day Halloween Celebrations.

I noticed some magazines with halloween crafts and recipes at the grocery store. I looked it up and it looked good.

Martha Stewart usually has a pretty good one, last year's was pretty lame and didn't have too many new ideas. Better H&G was good, I like that one a lot. Just look at the checkout lanes at the grpcery store or at a craft store!

There used to be a wonderful magazine called the Joy of Halloween - they stopped publishing it a few years ago - fortunately I kept all my old copies and during this time of year I re-read them and still find them as enjoyable as any of the new mag's I might pick up.

I've thumbed through the ones I've seen so far this year. I haven't been terribly impressed-- then again, most of the magazines are geared towards families with kids... and I don't have all that jazz. Still waiting for Martha's special "Living" Mag. I thought the ideas from last year's "Living" weren't half bad.... plenty of ways to adapt Martha's ideas. =)

I've pick up several 2008 magazines and the major trend I have noticed is anything labeled 'easy', as in 'easy no carve pumpkins'.

THE NEW MARTHA STEWART IS OUT.

I think she's back on her game this time! Maybe lock-up did her good

I have already picked up two magazines this year. I am still trying to find the Martha Stewart one. Does anyone watch her show? If so, is it good?

I watch clips on the day after on her web site. I only like the crafting segments, but all in all it's a quality show.

We picked up the BH&G special edition and it has some really great photos this year. I love the alien pumpkins and they have a free label for you to print out from Johanna Parker, one of my favorite Halloween artists, see http://www.johannaparkerdesign.com/scoo ... Parker.htm

What really irritates me about the Martha mags is the fact that she repeats some of her decorating ideas. If she is the queen of crafts, why can't she have new ones each year?!?!

The Ladies Home Journal (with Paula Deen on the cover ) came bundled with a thin Halloween Ideas section that has great JOL ideas in it.
