Of course!!! I will be here on Halloween from 3pm until 5pm. Then again after 10pm until whenever I am done being here!
I have to turn off at 5pm because I will have TOTers come out from 5:30pm until 8pm.

One person can't hurt but I'm sure most of us will be on for longer than just 3. But what you could do is leave your computer signed on in the morning until 3 and make sure it doesn't go to sleep or put on a screen saver or something.Rising Dead Man wrote:I might have to be on around 3:30 actually.
Re: *****LET'S BREAK THE HALLOWEEN.COM RECORD!!!!!
Will October 31st be busy??
Just because it's Friday night, it might not help. People around here do other things on Oct 31st - Vandalisms, Parades, Trickie-Treaty, Partyheads, Pranksters, Haunt Robbers, etc.
Second question is: Do you think November 1st, that Saturday will be busy? I have seen that November first hatchet full very hard and fast, removing Haunted House thoughts, as if they just were beheaded!?!
So, what do you say people??

Re: *****LET'S BREAK THE HALLOWEEN.COM RECORD!!!!!
For 2006 (and 2005 and 2007) Halloween.com was running on a dual-core server, 1ghz each core with 1GB of memory (RAM) and 80GB drives. It is now running on an 8 core server with 2GB of memory and dual 750GB drives (they are faster drives too)
In previous years, performance was tolerable, but at certain times during the day the server was having trouble with database requests and the database is what is behind the forums, so there were database (mysql) errors.
This year, the performance should be much improved and I am hoping there won't be any times when service is spotty.
The highest number of simultaneous connections I have seen for the web site was around 1300 open connections each second. The forums were obviously getting less than that. The new servers should easily be able to handle 5000 or 10000 simultaneous connections per second.
I am also considering loading the home page graphics from the 2nd server in order to off-load processing from the main server. I guess we'll see how things progress in the next 7 weeks.
I intend to be on here most of the day (as is often the case)...

FAST FORWARD TO SUMMER 2009
I'm sure it'll be much easier to get on here this year on Halloween because it's going to be on a SATURDAY! Huzzah!!!
For more about Halloween being on a Saturday, see this post: Halloween on a Saturday.

Re: *****LET'S BREAK THE HALLOWEEN.COM RECORD!!!!!
Ditto. I hope Halloween 2009 will be much better than last year, so what do you think? I know it's Saturday! I hope so many trickers and treaters are coming out this time, but if not.... well, forget it!
All we have to do is advertise the "best" Halloween giveaway candies at our homes online, or put some flyers out everywhere to our friendly neighborhoods. That's easily to do so! Make sure you have to have your own Halloween and Scary funny decorations in your own yard, maybe inside your house if you wish to welcome people inside your own home for snacks, drinks, and everything you can think you might want to offer something yourself.
