Hi, new member here! This is a wonderful forum. There are a lot of small haunted houses that are a blast to check out. I could send links to anyone who is interested. Also, of course is the granddaddy of them all, Knott's Scary Farm in Buena Park. If anyone on this board is in the area on October 20th, I will be going to Haunt with some friends. Anyone is welcome to join us to have spooky fun. Hope to see you there!!

Hey, that's great. I am not doing Knotts this year but it is great, I think I've done their big show about ten times or something like that. I am planning on doing the Universal Studios haunt on October 28th.

It seems that the really small haunted houses have disappeared and the only stuff left now is big and costs $20.00 at least...there used to be a lot of small $5.00 shows that were as much fun or more, and generally put on by local groups. Those are the ones I miss. They were much more homemade--fewer storebought props and more about people wearing ketchup on their heads. Well not literally, but you know what I mean--more raw and primitive and rough around the edges.

I'm in Newport Beach....it does seem like there isn't many smaller haunted houses around here. I'm doing the Queen Mary Maze in Long Beach on Oct 14th and the Knott's Scary Farm on Oct 1st!

It definitely seems that the smaller professional haunts have been driven out of business by the big boys. The consolation is that amateur yards haunts have become more elaborate than ever - and they're free! There are several in the San Fernando Valley that are worth checking out - they do give you that home-made, personal feel.

Anybody remember KMET's "House of Horrors"? I had the pleasure of working there Halloween of '84. It was a friggin blast.

Maybe I should ask if anybody remembers KMET.
Or does anybody remember '84 . . .

Ah...I didn't go to KMET's House of Horrors, but I used to listen to them all the time back in the day. Good stuff! And they used to do Dr. Demento's show on Sunday night, which I think was four hours long...quite a show.

At the time, it seemed like four hours was forever and I would get lost in it. Nowadays, four hours seems a lot like...four hours!

If you like the smaller $5 haunts, come visit us in Ventura. Our haunt is "The Catacombs", Visit our website at catacombs.sacredheartventura.org. Then you can visit seaside haunt, also in Ventura and always worth the drive. (www.seasidehaunt.com). Then you can see Reign of Terror (rothauntedhouse.com) in Thousand Oaks. They too are only $5 and one of the best haunts in the country. There are a few others in the area as well, you can really make a night of it....
