So many beautiful poems - every time I return to this thread I am impressed even more!
This is something written quite quickly.. a bit more morbid than Halloweeny but.. ah well:
The Damned
Your pale white flesh, soft against my lips
As if from stone is set;
You lie so still.
Your glassy eyes stare into my own,
Your face a mask of grace
Untouched by time.
My hand trails across your icy brow,
Warmth lost in emptiness;
Your skin like milk
You lie within a bed of satin,
Wood surrounds your body;
You clasp a rose
With deadened flesh hanging on your bones,
You sleep without a breath;
I cry for you
Your lips that I once kissed have turned blue,
Deprived of blood you rest;
Infinite death
And now I hold your limp, lifeless corpse..
Taste of death – your decay
Hangs on my lips.
Now your sweetened breath is of angels
Treading in the shadows
I once had been.
Dreaming visions stalk me through the night;
Driven into exile
By your spectre.
The heavy hull of guilt upon me,
I am wrenched to your soul;
I am the damned
Soon, alongside your grave, my sweetest,
In a bed of satin,
I shall lie too.

Poem
I am so glad you decided to post OEJ it was excellent and not to worry about its Halloween content...we have jumped the track a bit here of late. Magickbean another great poem it was very dark and I love that!!
Come follow me, I'll lead you where
The days are warm and nights are fair;
Where fields of mums, lush and green,
Will visit you within this scene --
As October inhales the autumn air.
So come with me and we shall share
The excitement the Fall can ensnare,
As fields of flowers thus convene.--
Come follow me...
fall's approach to which we're heir
Will bring about winter's repair,
Where we shall witness sights serene
And glory in that to be seen.
No other season can compare.
Come follow me...
Come follow me, I'll lead you where
The days are warm and nights are fair;
Where fields of mums, lush and green,
Will visit you within this scene --
As October inhales the autumn air.
So come with me and we shall share
The excitement the Fall can ensnare,
As fields of flowers thus convene.--
Come follow me...
fall's approach to which we're heir
Will bring about winter's repair,
Where we shall witness sights serene
And glory in that to be seen.
No other season can compare.
Come follow me...
Wild Winds thou shalt blow
carry away my saddened soul
tis the time of Judgement
carry away my saddened soul
tis the time of Judgement

Magickbean, sexual yet ghastly, now that is a fine line to walk. I agree with HH, that may be one of the darker poems on this thread. Good going. Just when you invoke a physical picture you counter with a deathly one, that takes some skilled work.
Spookyboo, a great seasonal work. With all he warm weather it is nice to read an ode to October. I think I could use some of winter's repair right now.

Alright, this came to me line for line, word for word as it appears below. I think it may be an all time favorite, but that's for you to decide....
There is candy to taste
So sticky sweet
There are cardboard vampires
Coming after me
Witches riding brooms
Flying through the air
Rubber masked Medusas
And their serpent hair
Pumpkins with knife cut smiles
And frozen screams
Streets swarm with the undead
Or so it seems
Crepe paper ribbons
Of orange and black
Make shift webs for spiders
Poised for attack
I saw Frankenstein
With his corpse, flat head
I saw Dracula
With fangs so red
You’d think I’d be scared
Of all this fright
So many dangers
On Halloween night
But I’ve got good luck
Bottled in a charm
That keeps me walking straight
Protects me from harm
It’s not a rabbit’s foot
Or a monkey’s fist
I’ve got magic warm and tender
Tucked away in your kiss
There is candy to taste
So sticky sweet
There are cardboard vampires
Coming after me
Witches riding brooms
Flying through the air
Rubber masked Medusas
And their serpent hair
Pumpkins with knife cut smiles

Or a monkey’s fist

Tucked away in your kiss
Do you want?
All your dreams to come true
Do you want?
Strong arms to hold onto
Do you need?
Your heart’s delight
Do you need?
Passion through the night
Look right up
There in the sky
Follow the trail
Don’t let dreams pass by
Stars will fall
They will lead
To the one
She has what you need
Raven hair twirled in autumn shades
She wears the colors of Halloween
Go to her with your pain and sorrow
Enchantment waits at Magickbean’s
All your dreams to come true
Do you want?
Strong arms to hold onto
Do you need?
Your heart’s delight
Do you need?
Passion through the night
Look right up
There in the sky
Follow the trail
Don’t let dreams pass by
Stars will fall
They will lead
To the one
She has what you need
Raven hair twirled in autumn shades
She wears the colors of Halloween
Go to her with your pain and sorrow
Enchantment waits at Magickbean’s

How about a traditional English, Halloween, Drinking song!
Ohhhhhhh……
Magickbean chuffed me last night
And I didn’t have to pay
Magickbean chuffed me last night
And now it’s made my day
I’ve never felt chuffed like that
I swear it’s all true
If you’re lucky maybe one night
Magickbean will chuff you too!
HEY!

They say when you die
You see a great light
If that’s true
I’ll find out tonight
Wintry and dark
The streets outside
Angels and devils
You hear collide
On Hallow’s eve
A thin line is tread
Grieve the departed
Or fear the dead
And heaven’s magic
Slips closer to earth
Let it touch me
Give me birth
Not into this world
Pitiless and mean
But into a world
That remains unseen
Beautiful shadows
The will o’ the wisp
Teeming in light
Ethereal mist
If on Halloween
I let go of the fear
Will I return?
This time each year
If I embrace the grave
Thinking of beauty so true
Can I come back?
Spend my time with you
Say you will
Say you’ll play your part
Next Halloween
Let me haunt your heart
You see a great light
If that’s true
I’ll find out tonight
Wintry and dark

Let me haunt your heart
Will you remember me?
Once Halloween is dead and gone
Every night has its morning
Every dusk has its dawn
In the cold winds of winter
Will my memory be near?
Or like a ghost will I disappear?
Will you remember me?
In the small hours of night
Are my words a blanket?
That you hold warm and tight
Or will spring and summer
Make your heart serene
Will you even remember this Halloween?
The moon in all its beauty
Casts only cold, reflected light
Do these words, small and meek
Cast only reflected life?
If come the first of November
You don’t remember
At least there was this Halloween
Once Halloween is dead and gone
Every night has its morning
Every dusk has its dawn
In the cold winds of winter
Will my memory be near?
Or like a ghost will I disappear?
Will you remember me?
In the small hours of night

I just wrote this in response to your last poem, Dr. Strange, and I literally JUST wrote it, so it needs a bit of work, but here it is:
I Will Remember You
I will remember you
As I gaze out over the pumpkin patch,
The sea of tangerine bowls
Gleaming with dew at dawn.
I will remember you
As I hang the wreath of roses,
The wooden witch and the signs
That you chose when we were one.
I will remember you
As the children head out for school,
Dressed up as The Munsters;
The costumes that you helped sew.
I will remember you
As I sit alone in cold sunlight,
My tears swirl with the coffee
In my Halloween mug, from you.
I will remember you
With the onset of the darkness,
The moon shrouded in gold
Holds not a candle to your face.
I will remember you
As I dutifully hand out the sweets
To the Trick or Treaters, asking
“Where is the Frankenstein man?â€Â
And I will remember you
As I tuck the children in bed,
In the patchwork pumpkin blanket
“I miss daddy,†they whisper.
I miss you too.

poem
What can I say I am off the computer for a few hours and I come back to an entire poetry book written by Dr. Strange and two excellent poems by magicbean Dr. Strange I would have a hard time saying which one I liked best since they evoked wonderful images...
I think that the poem that starts
They say when you die
You see a great light
If that’s true
I’ll find out tonight
seemed to speak to me most, however I love the full on Halloween one
How can I choose? I had better be struck with inspiration tomorrow to follow all these works....
