The classic Universal Monsters movies have been a tradition in my family for generations, my grandfather and his siblings watched them when they were kids, then he brought his kids to the theater to watch them in the 60s, and when we were kids my mother got them on VHS for us, and she still has those tapes at her place. My brother and I still love those movies to this day, and we have continued the tradition with our kids. Sam really likes them, and she is fascinated by the way they were made, and what things were like back then, but Phoebe just thinks that they are boring, maybe she will appreciate them when she is older, and doesn't think that anything in black and white is from when dinosaurs roamed the planet.
The first 2 Mummy movies with Brendan Fraser are so well done that they could be considered as some of the best remakes that Hollywood has ever made, though the third movie was average. I think it's interesting that in this modern age of film making, and with the technology available to them, and no matter how many times they try, that Hollywood sill can't make decent updated versions of the classic Universal Monsters movies, as any of the movies made in the last 10 years were just a disappointing waste.
As for Tim Burton, I think that almost every project that he has done is a masterpiece. I could go on for hours about how that man can capture cinematic beauty, but I won't ... because it's almost time for dinner.

But I will say that his animated movies, particularly the ones you mentioned, are among the best ever made.
By the way, have you ever watched the live action version of Frankenweenie? It was directed by Burton, and came out in 1984 and it's only 30 mins. long. You should check it out if you haven't seen it yet.
