A. I. Yay or nay?

Post by Andybev01 » Sun Jan 12, 2025 10:34 pm

I tried Gemini to create an image of an autumn landscape with bare trees and tombstones and it returned these.

Not too bad but it's lacking emotional depth.

What say ye?

It's interesting that the results generated by your request show a abandoned house in them even though you didn't mention a house, it's even more interesting that both seemingly abandoned houses have smoke coming from the chimneys.

I used another generator with the same request and these are the results.

Well, the ones with the house are spookier. They do look a bit run down, and the windows.are dark. The smoke makes you wonder if some squatter or homeless person has taken up residence there. You start to spin a story when you look at them.

The autumnal cemeteries are more pleasant by contrast. They suggest a sunny autumn afternoon to me. The colorful trees are also pretty. A person might be visiting those cemeteries to put flowers on a grave, or maybe do some genealogical research, then go for a pumpkin spice latte or some hot chocolate.

Oops: forgot to mention that one of the parameters was 'haunted house'.

I love the daylight images, like a nice spot for a picnic.

So, out of boredom I entered our usernames into the generator and these are the first images that came up.

TheHeadlessHorseman - not bad.

Murfreesboro - I haven't been there so I don't know if this image represents a actual street, but it looks nice.

Andybev01 - maybe it's just me, but from the recent pictures that I've seen of you I think there is a slight resemblance, as if it was you from about 20 years ago.

Does anyone else want to try this? Go and enter our usernames into the generator and copy the first images that come up and post them here.

I also had some fun with these unusual requests.

Frankenstein's Monster eating at Burger King - well, it's exactly what I requested.

Frankenstein's Monster vs Michael Myers - notice the number of fingers on Michael's hand... creepy.

Michael Myers killing Elmo from Sesame Street - yeah, this should be in the next movie.

Poor little Elmo! Lol

I don't think that street is in Murfreesboro, TN. There are at least two other Murfreesboros. One is in western Arkansas, near Nashville, Arkansas, so, three guesses where those settlers came from. (It is also the site of Crater of Diamonds State Park, the only place in America where you can mine actual diamonds.)

I've been told there is a Murfreesboro, North Carolina, too. I've never been there, but that might be a picture from there, or one inspired by it. The Murfreesboro I live in was founded by two Revolutionary War vets and their families, who came from NC. One of them was named Murfree, and the other one Lytle. Murfree, who'd been Lytle's superior officer, died en route to their land grants, so when Lytle and the two families got here, he named the town for the man who'd died. There is a street downtown called Lytle, who was the actual founder of the town.

My Murfreesboro is the geographical center of Tennessee. It was briefly the state capital, but some skulduggery went on when they were convening to determine the permanent capital. The meeting was to have taken place here, but the night before, their meeting place burned down. So the convention was moved 30 miles northwest to Nashville, which was then chosen as the capital. Even today, the two towns are surprisingly independent of each other. Middle TN State here in Murfreesboro is, among other things, the designated performing arts school for the TN State Univ system. (It is also the largest university in TN, larger even than UT-Knoxville.) Perhaps because of that, we have a symphony orchestra here, even though Nashville, 30 miles away, has one, too. So many people have moved into Nashville in the last 10 or 12 years that we are beginning to see the spillover, since our homes are more affordable and the public schools are better. However, historically, we've not had much need to go up there for work or shopping. Those who commute to Nashville regularly are generally pretty recent residents.

Frankenstein looks like BK got his order wrong!

Elmo would be perfect in that role.

That guy looks a lot like my nephew, Lucas, but that's where the resemble ends.

He has his PhD in nuclear fission and exotic fuels.

The company he works for currently has an experiment on the ISS with the hope of producing some go-juice for deep space exploration.

Yeah, it doesn't run in the family.

Which one looks like Lucas? Michael Myers, Frankenstein, or Elmo?

He does have impressive creds.

The black & white image of the man with glasses on.

His older sister received her PhD in music a few years ago and is a professor at George Mason.

Seriously competitive family that one.

Oh, I see. I didn't look far enough back in the thread. He's a pleasant looking fellow.

Ah, George Mason. When we lived in Virginia, that was my neck of the woods.

Is your niece a vocalist or an instrumentalist primarily? Or perhaps she is neither. Does she teach music history or theory? It occurs to me that a PhD is not a performance degree. That would be an MFA.

You know, a great many mathematicians are musical. At heart, music is a mathematical system. And of course acoustics is a category of physics, I guess.
