Re: Gardening
My pumpkin plants not doing so well. Been well over the 100s here lately and there's not enough water. Two of them (out of 11) are getting blooms but I seriously doubt fruits will grow. Boowho!

Well, I had a profusion of vines, but something kept nibbling the blossoms off, so I know I won't have any, either.

Re: Gardening
Well Murf I'm finally getting around to trying that Zucchini bread. I didn't get around to making it for Thanksgiving so I was determined to do so for Christmas.
However I had to improvise a bit...I didn't have any loaf pans so I used cup cake pans to make them into muffins...and I put the rest into a cake pan.
Hopefully it'll turn out!
Also the only nuts I had on hand were those pecan yummies I got from the maple festival, and some nuts in the shell. It would take forever to shell the nuts, so I tossed in the pecan yummies. I'll let you know how it tastes.
I also didn't have time for my family's recipe of Christmas cookies so I just found an easy one online. The cookies ended up tasting more like biscuits than cookies! Oh well.

I made a batch of peanut butter cookies that turned to stone when they cooled.
They're still good for biscotti.

Re: Gardening
You could probably dunk them in milk too Andy.
The Zucchini bread was a success! I made quite a few muffins out of it. The neighbors really liked them too! I might freeze some of it though. Plus the Saigon cinnamon really gives it flavor. Thanks for the recipe Murf! I don't think I would want to try a different one, this one is perfect!

Got a giant pumpkin vine growing. Hope I got in planted in time to get pollinated... I'm a little worried because it's already in the 90s (Fahrenheit).

The weather's doing jumping jack's here and it's been driving my immune system crazy! To the point of me coming down with a sinus infection. x.x
I don't think I'll be planting anything this year. Going to take a break from gardening. Although I had a good bit of pumpkins last year, you never know the seeds might spread and they might just go wild on me. That would be awesome in a way though.
I see that you're in Arizona! I bet it is pretty warm there. My cousins did live there and I know one of them relocated back to our home state.

Re: Gardening
Just now seeing that you tried the zucchini bread, or rather muffins! Glad they turned out well
I had a bad respiratory thing and then spring allergies hit. I just barely got my voice back in time to sing the descants on Easter morning. Serious descants-- high B-flat at 8 a.m. Arrrgh! But I did it.
I lost my potted rosemary over the winter. I think I didn't water it enough. It doesn't take much water, but apparently needed more than it got. So I bought a new one today.

Re: Gardening
I brought a rosemary cutting from the old house with me when I left California.
The first roots fell off when it was transplanted, but after a few weeks new ones appeared.
I will be extra careful when I go to pot it.

Re: Gardening
I wonder if I could successfully root a rose from a cutting? My husband bought a dozen beautiful roses on Easter Eve, and I'd love to get a start from one of them.

Re: Gardening
Hi Murf,
I have rooted roses before, I cut at the bottom and added root grow to it and it worked great. I just started some Prayer plants in water they are so pretty, I can't wait to plant flowers. I am getting ready to plant tomato's too, I don't have good luck with pumpkins tho....

Re: Gardening
When you rooted the roses, did you strip the leaves and fading bloom off the stem? I have some root grow and am about ready to try it.
I had pumpkin vines come up last year where I had discarded some old, uncarved pumpkins the previous fall. However, something kept nibbling all the blossoms off, so I never got a pumpkin.

It only took a week for healthy roots to reappear.Andybev01 wrote:I brought a rosemary cutting from the old house with me when I left California.

That's because they have never tasted my garlic chicken recipe...
