Yeah, I feel bad about the change in Cuban policy, too. I don't really understand how the Castros have stayed in power for so long. I was a very little girl when Fidel took over, and he isn't dead yet!

As the saying goes, it's an ill wind that blows no good at all. I suppose there will be some good things to come of it--maybe some families can be reunited, for example. But I don't see it helping change the regime down there. Instead we seem to be pretending that the status quo in Cuba is A-OK.

I went to the Farmer's market today and got me a delicious BBQ Pork Sandwich with some slaw on top. It was really good! Everyone said it was so I figured I'd try something different. I've had pulled BBQ pork before of course but I wanted to try their's. I'll definitely get some again!

That sounds scrumptious!

I had a left-over hamburger with lettuce, tomato, avocado & mustard; corn chips; carrots with dip; a handful of peanuts; and some chocolate ice cream. Gee, that sounds like a lot! It didn't seem like that much when I ate it!

Yes, just when you think people can't be any dumber, they go and prove you wrong.

The short and simplest answer as to why Castro has lasted so long is because he was that popular. My in-laws and others in Miami, bristle when I say that, just like my fellow True Southrons get made atme when I tell them we were stupid for firing on Fort Sumter. But true is true, no matter how much it stings the ego.

There were other factors that deal with Cuba, like it being an island and having a relative small population that can be contained by the government is a big plus. The fact under Castro many more Cubans were imprisoned and executed than under Fulgencio Batista is a given, but Castro has always been able to paint himself as the patriot standing up against the imperial Americans has worked.

The fact the Cuban economy was kept alive by the USSR was a vital propaganda tool for both Moscow and Havana, and many in Miami thought when the Soviet Union went under that Cuba would be next. Castro fooled everybody and until he became ill his cult of personality kept Cuba Communist, and it won't change anytime soon. Look at China. The fear in Miami is that Cuba could take a page from the Chinese playbook and keep on chugging along.

Thanks for those insights, Kolchak. I've never known much about Cuba.

Man you all should have tried some of my sweet corn. I had some last night and it was amazing! Fresh from the garden and everything; I boiled it in some water and put lots of butter on it. Good stuff! :D

Have you tried mayonnaise on corn-on-the-cob?

I swore by butter and salt but my cooking buddy served it on the 4th of July and I'm a mayo convert now.

It melts better than butter and with the flavors of the mayonnaise ingredients there is no need for salt.

I don't know about that Andy; it doesn't sound too appetizing to me.

Speaking of corn; I had some fried up with zucchini and seasoned; along with some Manwich!

Not a mayo fan here, although I will cook with it, and perhaps it would work on corn on the cob.

Wow Witchy, good luck!

I just polished off a big plate of buttermilk biscuits smothered with gravy and sausage.

As soon as I can get out of my chair I'll waddle in to the kitchen for more.

I just had a bowl of Reese's Puff's Cereal and I'm going to have some coffee with Pumpkin spice creamer. :)

I actually have cousins who live in Florida and Georgia. I want to take a trip down there one day and see what it's all about. I still can't believe my cousin said once that 50 degrees was cold! I would have loved it to be 50 in Virginia when she said that.
