Store Going Out of Business

Post by Kolchak » Fri Sep 12, 2014 10:28 pm

For about 12 years I've been using Terry's Village to buy Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas and St Patrick's and 4th of July decorations.

They always had original items and the service was always good. Yesterday while checking my e-mails I saw they had sent me one saying they were going to close down after 20 years of business.

It didn't list reasons but usually when someone retires they say so or sell the business to someone else. I got the impression the closing was due to the economy, but can't say for certain. Their e-mail said they were selling stuff for as much as 50% off.

The store sold items for home and garden for the various holiday seasons, so regardless of the time of year, you might want to go check them out and see if they have anything you'd like.

My wife and I have gotten things from them and have never been disappointed. Although my wife HATED the last 4th of July item I bought. I had to go behind her back to get it. It was a red-white and blue rooster!!!

She said it was worse than gauche, but I kind of liked it! I put it on the front porch and she took it down.

I put it in the den. She took it down.

I put it on the kitchen table. She went BALLISTIC!!

So I used my army ranger training and would move him from different spots to keep the wife guessing.

I was going to have a little chain name plate made.

I was going to name him.....Cocky.

She said she would take one of HER guns and blast it to pieces if I did that!

Women! Can't live with them. Can't trade them in for a new truck!!!!

Tuck it in her side of the bed, with its head on the pillow, Godfather style.
All you that doth my grave pass by,
As you are now so once was I,
As I am now so you must be,
Prepare for death & follow me.

LOL!

I actually love roosters. I even had a pet rooster for a few months as a child. I would go for that red white & blue rooster!

Sad to hear about that great little store shutting down, though. Yes, I think non-essential businesses are feeling the pinch mightily these days.

This guy hangs out in my kitchen. I found it at Michael's after thanksgiving for $5!

It's life-sized and has great detail.

I don't know why fowl looks good in a kitchen, or seashells in a bathroom for that matter.

Isn't it kind of a French motif? I remember the rooster being a symbol of the Winter Olympics in Albertville, France. Maybe not the only symbol, but one of them. In literature the rooster is called Chanticleer, and he shows up in a lot of medieval animal fables. They mostly come from France.

Of course, it may just be that chickens are so useful in cooking.

That is sad Kolchak...that's why I try to endorse small town businesses when I can. Also you should take out the patriotic rooster randomly...in say March to throw her off her game.

Doesn't sound like the economy. Sounds as if it just fell out of favor with customers who could shop elsewhere, and cheaper. That's cool of Oriental Trading to take on some of their more popular items.

As always, it's sad to see this stuff happen, but it's inevitable.
