Hi Folks:

I have some INCREDIBLE news. In October of 09, in the "Haunted Places" message boards, I posted some exteriors of the Bartonville Insane Asylum. Well, I just received an e-mail from the owners of that creepy old hospital, and they are opened for tours at 4:30 every Friday and Saturday. I am going to be making a 'haunted road trip' to Bartonville for some interior photos of some of the creepiest and scariest rooms in that place, and for a copy of the disc of all the photos I shoot, they are going to give me "card blanch" access to all the patient rooms, the basement, and others. This will be towards the end of May as my present photo schedule is pretty hectic right now. To boot, I am going to be paid. $500.00 for doing something that I love.

But that's not all. Starting next October, they are going to be doing a ghost hunting tour that goes from midnight to 6:00 am, and they want me to provide photo coverage of that, too. That means I am going to be INSIDE the Bartonville Insane Asylum at the stroke of Midnight until 6:00 am in OCTOBER. What a way to ring in the Halloween season.

My adventure actualy is going to start in May, Jadwick. Most of my exteriors will be shot when I head down there at the end of the month, but the over nighter will be in October, and you can rest assured I'll be bringing my camera along for that trip, too. The trouble is that the October tours tend to fill up very fast.

Interesting article and video, but I don't think the archetecture, itself is particularly creepy. Most buildings built back in those days tended to have the same archetecture. What really makes an abandoned insane asylum or hospital creepy is that they are, in fact, abandoned, and they were also places of horible suffering. The "treatments," especialy at an insane asylum back in 'the day,' was very inhumane. They involved electro shock theroapy, emersion in freezing cold water, and very often, orderlies would abuse patients in many ways, including but not limited to (un mentionlable). Even young children weren't spared. Most if not all of those institutions ended up being 'warehouses' for unwanted people. The elderly were often comitted, as were children who were thought to be insane. The stories of patients who were committed at a very young age, lived out their entire lives and died in these institutions abound.
