Re: What do you guys do to scratch the itch?
Well, as you all know, "Little Halloween forr 2013 is September and December. I actualy bought a cheap grow lighe, and planted a few punpkin seeds in my basement. Perhaps I can produce some pumpkins, in my basement, where the rabbits and squirls never dare to venture.
Have any of you grown pumpking out of flower pots instead of in an out door garden?
If so, how did they turn out? Did you get any really huge jack o'lanterns out of them or just 'jack-be'littles?" This is for flower pot growing people? I know that you can grow some awesome pumpkins out of doors as long as you can keep the critters out, but I want to grow them inside, and huge.

Re: What do you guys do to scratch the itch?
It could work, if you have a big enough pot for the roots to spread out and soak up water. Probably want a lattice for the vines to climb. Just tie the stems to the lattice when the pumpkins start getting bigger so they don't break off. I doubt they would grow in a basement though since the leaves need a lot of sunlight. Maybe try a grow light?
I probably wont grow any this year, or at least until I get a handle on this house. Have to set up a whole new irrigation system. All that work I did last year gone to waste. Sigh...

Re: What do you guys do to scratch the itch?
I actualy have 4 grow lights shining on them, NeverMore. Nothing would grow in a basement withoug a grow light and good heating. Pumpkins, especialy are a Summertime Plant. I would much rather grow them outdoors, but as I said before, every time I try, the score board reeds:
Critters 1
Pumpkin_Man 0
So flower pots are the only viable solution. The basement is best because it has the most room. Presently I am using 3 gallen plastic flower pots, so I probably shouldn't expect too much in the way of size. This is pretty much a practice shot for growing my own Halloween pumpkins. For my next grow, I'll go with 6 or maybe even 10 gallen pots.

I sure will. I think I got some bad seeds, however, because they are not germinating. They are from a packet of seeds I bought, I think, in 2006. IF nothing germinates by Friday, I'll go get a packet of seeds at the grocery store and try and try again.

If you're down you should get on your broom and fly. More seriously perhaps start contemplating this years costume? I mean you only have 245 days 9 hours and 17 mins left to plan!witchy wrote:Sounds wonderful Mike!!

Hi DD, I really do wish I could fly, I'm sure that would do the trick!!
I'm not having a Halloween party this year so I won't be dressing up, we usually have a party every other year.

I can't imagine not having a Halloween party. I hope to have one this year even though our parasite should be four months old by then. I don't think Halloween would be the same without it!witchy wrote:Demonic Duck wrote:If you're down you should get on your broom and fly. Re: What do you guys do to scratch the itch?
Witchy, I'm very sorry to hear that, but don't let it get you down. Last week, I spend 3 days in the hospital, so it's been a rough Winter for me, too. January and February are usualy pretty bad months for me to begin with. They're like 2 months of Mondays. Boring, cold, snowy, rainy, drab, and just plain dead as far as any major celebrations are concerned.
My pumpkins aren't doing so well, either. I planted the seeds last Sunday and there's still no sign of any germination to speak of at all.
On the brigher side of things, I worked overtime last night, will be working O T tonight, and O T on Friday night, so I'll be raking in some extra moolah.
So I guess despite everything, things aren't really that bad.
Good luck, and keep your chin up.
Mike
