Creepmas
Anyone else going to celebrate Creepmas this year? The first thirteen days of December. It's our chance to get back at the retailers for pushing that other holiday on us so early, as early as August this year. They're trying to take over Autumn and Halloween like they did Thanksgiving. We can't let them! It's time to push back.
I'm going to watch scary movies, finishing up with the ultimate Creepmas movie... Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas. Maybe I'll carve the Santa man into one of my remaining pumpkins and put him on display. If we had snow I would definitely have a decapitated snowman in the front yard. It would be even more fun to duplicate Calvin's snowmen in real life. I need to find me a Krampus mask. Any other ideas?

Re: Creepmas
As much as I love the Christmas season in December, I agree that seeing Christmas lights and decorations being sold as early as August is a bit tacky to say the least, and it actualy detracts from that holiday, so on behalf of Creepmas, I am going to screen "Black Christmas" next Saturday, which is the 1st of December.

Re: Creepmas
I really am worried about them usurping Halloween. We lost half our crowd on Thanksgiving because they wanted to get to the stores early. I remember when no stores were open on Thanksgiving and we would hang out with our friends and family late into the evening.

Re: Creepmas
Well, that is kind of a shame, because I can remember things like that, too. They also make such a big deal of it to boot.....BLACK FRIDAY SALES........THANKSGIVING SALES.........GET READY FOR CHRISTMAS EARLY.......BLAH BLAH BLAH..... It's all about the all mighty buck. I really do think Christmas should be confined to it's appropriate season. At the local Dollar Store, by the time I went there last October to buy some Halloween decorations, they had 5 or 6 shelvs of Christmas decorations and artificial trees, and one very sparsely stocked shelf of Halloween decorations that were all picked over. Some of the local stores had Christmas decorations and artificial Christmas trees in their windows as early as August, and I just can't get into that spirit until after Thanksgiving.....well, I must confes....when I do my Holiday cleaning, I do play Christmas music in the back ground, but not in July or August.
At any rate, I agree that Christmas hype has userped Thanksgiving, a good part of the Halloween season, and seems to be userping Summer.

Re: Creepmas
Never heard of creepmass... but it sounds like fun. If you go as Krampus, I'll be the Whipfather. I've always wanted an excuse to wear a beard with chains. LOL =)

Nice pic Jadewik. The Krampus looks appropriately scary. I wish we had a Krampus parade here. That would fit perfect with the Creepmas season.
Here's the video I posted last year of Austria's parade. I love the guy with the flashing blue eyes.

Re: Creepmas
I'm not sure what to make of the shopping frenzy that apparently took place last weekend. My older son and I actually got out into it on Thanksgiving evening, but not because we wanted to Christmas shop. We just needed a few household items we'd run out of, and our meal was long over, of course.
I can understand why working parents might take the opportunity to shop for their kids when they are off work and maybe can leave the younger ones with grandparents. For them the early shopping makes sense. Do it while you can. But personally I can't think of anything at all I need to buy so much that I have to stand in line for it for hours in the night.
And does last weekend's shopping frenzy portend a good holiday season for merchants? Or will everyone just buy early, and then the season will fizzle nearer to Christmas?
When I consider what our financial future as a nation could be, I wonder at all the shopping that's going on now. Are people really that oblivious? Or are they thinking, along with Louis XIV (I think it was), Apres moi, le deluge? (After me, the flood, the disaster).

Re: Creepmas
we (Target) opened at 9pm on Thanksgiving because Walmart opened early, so of course we had to compete, We had to be there as early as 5pm, I had to be there at 7pm, I wasnt too happy about it but as sad as it is to go in early on the holiday, Target sales were UP over last years BF sales, so it seems the majority of people didnt seem to mind shopping on Thanksgiving and only us employees were the ones complaining......

I don't care, at all, for any shopping facility during the entire Thanksgiving weekend. Crowded, miserable, frustrating, and it puts me in a very foul mood.

Re: Creepmas
I will address the now two topics
On Topic:I think I recall someone bringing up(here or somewhere else) bringing up Creepmas. It's an interesting concept and that parade looks awesome.
Off Topic:I'm fine with Black Friday but stores opening for shopping on Thanksgiving? That is terrible. Not that it mattered much people were online waiting outside Best Buy and the like as early as Monday! I don't care how bad you need a new TV screw that.

Re: Creepmas
I think that was me who mentioned Creepmas earlier. I need to get a Santa hat and beard to decorate one of the pumpkins, make it look like the logo on the Creepmas blog.

How about a skeleton in a Santa suit, or a Grim Reaper with a red suit instead of a black one.

Didn't Mac or somebody have a skeleton in a Santa suit a few years back?

Re: Creepmas
Happy December! I'm feeling patriotic so I'm gonna start my Creepmas celebration by watching 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter'.
