Beat the Post-Halloween Blues

I have a friend who wants to start working on next years plans..we haven't even taken the castle down yet!! lol

I've finally discovered a way to beat the post-Halloween blues. All you have to do is have a year where you don't get to do anything for Halloween that you really wanna do, and you won't get depressed on November 1st!

It does make for a suckier Halloween. But then, there's always next year!!!

I would be feeling pretty "blue" if I didn't do anything for Halloween. I have to carve at least one jack o'lantern, even if it's just one of those "little guys" that sel for a couple of bucks.

As for the Post Halloween Blues, I am going to be too busy with photo asignments and too busy with preparing my house for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's not my year to host Thanksgiving, but I may have to host it anyway because of an emergency situation at my brother's house.

At any rate, I really don't start getting "the blues" until that first work day after Christmas Vacation. I attribute that more to it being Winder, however, then I do to it being a "post holiday" type of a scenario. I call it the "Post Christmas Winter Blues," but it's really the "Long Boring Winter Blues," and it goes on through January, February and a significant portion of March.

I always feel low in January, some of February too until the 14th as not only is that Valentine's Day but it's also my wife's birthday!

Well it's good you have something to look forward to. I really don't observe Valentines Day at all. I use to back in 'the day' when we handed them out to all our class mates, and when I'm dating some one I observe it, but I am just not a huge Valentines Day fan.

Liek I said, if I had my druthers, I would skip over January and February, except for 2012, because of there being a "Litltle Halloween" next year in Jan.

My mother used to call January "the Monday morning of the year."

Fortunately, in the South, we don't get the harsh winters some of you all do. I am actually delighted when it snows, because we don't get it regularly, and when we do, schools shut down, so all my family is home with me, even my husband. I can always look forward to the first spring flowers (usually daffodils) by the end of February. Even though we can still get cold snaps, spring is clearly on the way by Groundhog Day or a little later.

That's one of my mini-traditions, viewing that movie Groundhog Day on February 2nd. That is, if my older son hasn't spirited it away with him at school!

I am not a skilled gardener, but I do enjoy gardening, so I look at seeds and seed catalogues and sometimes start things indoors in January. It is a wonderful cure for the winter doldrums.

I have lately started a tradition of having chocolate-covered strawberries at Valentine's. They aren't hard to make, and they mark the day a little festively.

I agree with your mother. January is like a whole month of Mondays. I do have a few projects planned for January, however. 1. I am going to paint my basement and do some much needed spackling to prepare to refinance my house at a lower interest rate. 2nd, I am going to purchase a new set of tires for the Harley. That way come April I'll have the money saved to have them installed, and the tires will already be there. 3rdly, I need to retube my preamp. Vaccum tube stereo equipment sounds fantastic, but it's also very high maintenence. I am long over due for a ndw set of tubes in my pre amp. which is a Sunfire signature tube preamp. Of course, January and February is also the time when I start planning my Spring calender. I have my St. Patrick's Day party in March, and Jan and Feb are usualy when I make my plans and contact my people. The good news is, in 2012, March 17th actualy falls on a Saturday, so it looks like I'll be celebrating it on the actual day.

Of course, a lot of good movie releases usualy happen in Jan and Feb, too. SO, it's not a total loss, but I am usualy very happy when it's March 1st.
