I just finished watching Rosemary's Baby. I don't hear people talk about that one much nowadays, but it was a huge hit and is actually very well made. Ruth Gordon won an Oscar for it, way back when.

You know it was filmed at the Dakota, the place where John Lennon was killed years later. And it was released just a year or so before Roman Polanski ( the director) lost his wife and unborn child in the Manson family killings. Kinda weird associations.

I think the red eyes (and the claw-like hands during the rape scene) are the only "special effects" in the whole thing. It gets its nightmare quality by using very mundane elements. Really an accomplishment, I think.

The build up of suspense is the star of that movie. Brutal.

I love that one, too. I believe it is the best filmed version of that tale.

Lillith, I love The Exorcism of Emily Rose. It is the scariest scary movie I know. Gets to me more than The Exorcist.

Yesterday afternoon my daughter & I attended a community theater production of Dracula. It was pretty good.
