Don't check out the sequel then Jack. It was a hundred times worse.

Anyone seen Motor Home Massacre? I'm embarrassed to say that I actually have this one in my collection--it was one of three I bought for my Worst Horror Movie contest. However, I have not watched it--for laughs or scares. I have a feeling that it will be the worst .82 I've ever spent

I've never seen or heard of it.

It sounds like it will be the worst though! :)

Well, some people consider The Wicker Man (original version) a cult classic, but I was embarrassed by it when I viewed it once, and I didn't much like the ending, either. I love Edward Woodward, but the "pagan rites" featured early on just reminded me of how recently films had been permitted to show nudity back then; and then, I didn't like the fact that the detective was ultimately killed. He may have been prudish, but he was a decent guy, and I didn't like seeing decency tricked and destroyed. So I would have voted "thumbs down" on that one if I'd known the full story before I'd bought it.

I saw a movie recently that is supposedly a good one called The Innocents. I think it was from the 60's. It was flat out awful. And I didn't think it would ever end either. It wasn't the worst I have seen, but it was definitely bad. I've actually come to think that as a whole, the horror genre really produces more bad movies than good.

I on the other hand, loved the original Wicker Man. It was very well done and had a good story.

Is this the one with Deborah Kerr, about a governess of a little boy and girl, and she gets the idea that the boy is haunted, perhaps possessed, by the ghost of a former employee who died violently?

That is based on the well-known Henry James novella, The Turn of the Screw. Although it is presented as a ghost story, most critics believe that the only "haunting" is going on in the mind of the demented governess, that it is a psychological study of a woman in the process of losing her mind. There was an opera based on this story, too, I think perhaps by Benjamin Britten.

I have always liked it, but it really isn't a traditional horror story.

As for The Wicker Man--I do understand why some people would like it. I have viewed it only once, and I wasn't prepared for the extreme suggestiveness of some of the scenes. When I said I was embarrassed by it, that's not exactly the right word. In a way, it seemed funny to me, because I recalled the era in which it was made (early '70s, I think), and how agog everyone was back then that you could--gasp!--show nudity and overtly erotic stuff in non-pornographic films. That part of it seemed way OTT to me. Almost like a period piece.

What I really disliked, though, was the way the Edward Woodward character was tricked and cruelly sacrificed, when he was really willing to risk his life to save a child. Although he wasn't a perfect character, he was fundamentally decent, and I didn't like to see decency destroyed in that way. I never tried to see the remake with Nick Cage. I figured if I hadn't liked Edward Woodward's version I probably wouldn't like anyone else's. Woodward was quite a favorite of mine.

It was a strong, suspenseful story with a good cast. I just didn't like where the story ultimately led.

Speaking of horror films and remakes--I have always loved the old 1960s version of The Haunting, with Julie Harris. But my kids prefer the remake from the late '90s, with Catherine Zeta Jones. They saw that one first and, I guess, they miss all the special effects in the earlier version. But to me, the earlier version is much eerier.

I also love the novella on which it is based, Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House. That still strikes me as one of the scariest reads ever.

Murf, i've only ever seen the remake. I didn't like it though. Might give the original a go. :)

Jack, you should check out with the original classic "The Wicker Man" b/c it is very good movie, and its best than the remake! :) I really didn't like the remake with Nicolas Cage in it! :?

I do like Christopher Lee, Britt Eklund and Edward Woodard. Sadly, Edward died in 2009. Christopher is still alive and well at 89, and Britt is 69.

Yes, Edward Woodward was terrific. Loved him in everything he did. He is very good in The Wicker Man, too. My problem was with the story, not the acting.
