Pumping up the neighborhood

Last year we had about 30 ToTs. Meh. I'm expecting less because it's a Monday but I'm just not happy about that.

Our house is definitely one of the "trendsetters" on the street. I noticed NO decorations went up for Halloween last year until we put up ours. Same with Christmas. Maybe my street just needs to get pumped up for the holiday.

So I had a thought. Would it be odd if I made a bunch of little postcards and put them in my neighbor's mailboxes? Just something simple to get them thinking about Halloween and excited for trick or treating? Like "The spiders are coming on Halloween night! We can't wait to see you too!" (Spider themed yard haunt this year)

Retarded or acceptable?

I like that idea, but...

Mailboxes are the domain of the postal service (motto "Maintaining a consistent revenue stream since 1990.") and you could get busted 'tampering' with one.

try putting them on the doors or in the gap at the doors, you know, like those annoying menus they always leave when your gone

If your supermarket sells mini pumpkins or gourds, you could but a bagful, cut a slit across the top and use them like place cards.
Set your postcards in them and put them by their front door or gate.

True. But I feel silly "advertising" for ToTs. Mailboxes aside, is the whole idea just laughable or plausable?

Love that idea!!!! Mini pumpkins would be adorable!

I'd do it just to boost people's spirits, added ToTer's would just be a bonus.

I also think it's a great idea. :) I'm expecting less ToT's due to it being a Monday too. :(

It's a cute idea but I doubt it's going to change anyone's plans or habits. You know?

I think that is a fantastic idea! Other than my own, maybe two other houses on my block decorate for Halloween, which is ridiculous since there is both an elementary school and a junior high within walking distance. I see nothing wrong with trying to pump up the neighborhood. Like Morticia said, you may not be able to change their minds, but it's not going to hurt anything to try. You might even inspire some to be more involved...

I think that if my little niece goes as Little Red Riding Hood, I'm going to fill a little basket full of those wee baby pumpkins. And she can give one to each person who gives her candy. Spread the Halloween cheer all around! :D

Aww, I'd love to see a Little Red Riding Hood costume! With a basket of mini-pumpkins! How cute!
