Gated Community & ToT'ing

In January, I moved into a house I'm renting in a gated community. (I loathe the gate for the false sense of security it provides.) I asked the landlord (also the previous tenant) how many trick-or-treaters (ToTers) they got in previous years. They couldn't remember, but it was a fair number.... something like 25-50, which isn't bad considering some of the dismal numbers I've seen others mention.
Does anyone else live in a gated community? What can you tell me about ToT'ing in your community? Do kids bring friends in because it's "gated" and "safer"?
While I still lived in apartments, I'd take care of my in-laws' ToT'ers at their house and we'd have +150 ToT'ers-- a constant stream all night, to which we've, in 2 years, earned the reputation as being the house that gave away the best stuff. It was a lot of fun, but I really want to break away from the in-law-thing and build up my own reputation at "my house" (at least for as long as I rent there). I'm just worried that the blasted gate will foil my plans for drawing in more ToT'ers...
Any tips or ideas to conqueror the gate are welcome. Thanks a bunch! =)
