Hi Folks:

Sorry for being gone a couple of days, but I was preparing a real Halloween treat for you. Of course, I had a lot more fun taking these pictures then you will have looking at them, but just the same, you don't become a member of a Halloween forum, and then don't share gems like these.

I did not see any apperitions or hear any noises other then street traffic, but it was a very unique experience. I am also in contact with the owner of that building to see about getting inside so I can get some better interiors. Again, if it happens I'll post to this site.

That would be kind of neat, Adrien, but I have never been given to apperitions, or paranormal experiences. That's not to say that others don't have these experiences, but I just don't have that "6th sense" that some people have for those sort of things. There are others on this forum who I'm sure would have seen or heard something at Bartonville. I, unfortunately, had no such luck.

That would be fun, but I doubt it ever will. Like I said, I just don't have that "6th sense," or that inner ability to experience the paranormal. I do believe in it, but I just have not experienced it for myself. I also believe in the existance of UFOs and aliens from other planets, but I never actualy saw any.

I don't know what you mean by "outsiders," but if you are refering to space aliens, I also believe in them.

On another note, I found out what I.A.I.I. stands for. It stands for "Illinois Asylum for the Incurable Insane," and that does make the most sense since the actual name of that institution was "The Peoria State Hospital for the Incurable Insane" when it was in it's hay day, and later they dropped "Incurable Insane" and simply refered to it as the "Peoria State Hospital," but the most commonly known name is the Bartonville Insane Asylum.

The thing is, I knew as soon as I saw that plate, that there was a significance to those initials, and I would be willing to bet that it was a highly recognized icon 100 years ago that was there to denote that the building was indeed an insane asylum, and those approaching should beware.

I actualy shot over 160 diffenent photos of that old asylum, but there's just not enough room on Halloween.com's server to post all of them, so I picked out the few which I thought were the best, and posted them here. I had to drasticaly reduce the file sizes to get them to post to this site, so they are no good for rinting. If you want prints of any of these, pm me with an e-mail addy and I will send you the full file size jpeg. You should get a good 8x10 print of that. I'm actualy using that wide shot of the whole building as my desk top background on my computer screen.
