Well, I can kinda see that mom's point. I don't want to see Halloween festivals before Labor Day, either! I suppose there is a danger of Halloween fatigue, comparable to Christmas fatigue.

The thing is, in the South , the weather just won't cooperate with early Halloween celebrations. I've had a Halloween themed sweatshirt for over 20 years that still looks new, because it has been worn so seldom. Even in early October, we are still pretty warm around here. By the end of that month, things are starting to get a bit frosty. High school football season begins in summer heat and ends in frigid temperatures.

I don't have a problem with the commercial attractions' opening in mid-September, as they generally do around here. I get that it costs something to mount these entertainments, and folks need to recoup their investment and make some profit.
