That is one 'haunted road trip' I really want to make. Salem Mass for Halloween would truely be a hoot, all though I would probably have to take the car, because the East Coast gets pretty nippy at the end of October.

Ergotism/Ergot Poisoning or Rye poisoning could have been what started the whole witch hunt. The symptoms are similar to what was described. Obviously, the Salem populace capitalized on the whole affair.... doesn't matter how it started-- thank God someone was smart enough to finish the whole affair.

It was also a way that a lot of people got rid of neighbors they didn't like. They would falsely accuse them of witchcraft. The teeny boppers who started the whole thing were most likely liars, according to what I've read. I also imagine that the rhy poisening or this Ergotism had something to do with it, too.
