What a useless, pathetic excuse for a holiday.

Oui.
And thus is displayed the extent of my knowledge of French; all of three words.

I never really hated any holiday or observance day, I just don't really get into Valentines Day, except to watch the Charlie Brown tv specials that use to air on tv back in 'the day.' If I was dating someone, then Valentines Day woud take on a whole other aspect. I use to give my mom a nice card when she was still alive, and she use to bake us a heart shaped cake, but it was never a really big deal. IMHO, Valentines Day is more about greeting card companies and candy companies makingm oney then it is about love any more.

Hey, I mail out plenty of greeting cards. I've even made up a few of my own using some of my photographs and a computer. I am also a business man, so I have no problem with making money. I'm just of the opinion that Valentines Day is more about boosting candy and greeting card sales then it is about love and romance. Or at least it's not the way it use to be. I can remember watching Valentines day tv specials, and a lot of my fav tv shows had Valentines day episoces back in 'the day.' Now a days, you hardly ever even hear "Valentines Day" mentioned on tv. The "Charlie Brown" valentines day specials are available on DVD, but they don't air on prime time tv any mroe like they use to back in "the day."
If I ever meet "Miss Right," then I will probably pay more attention to the holiday. But for now, it's just an excuse to screen some of my "Charlie Brown" DVDs.

Like I sake, Vallentines Day is really meant to be celebrated by couples who are involded in a romantic relationship. That's not to day that sons shouldn't give valentines to their moms, brothers to their sisters or vice versa, but for the most part, Vallentines Day is a day set aside for two people who are in love, to celebrate that love. I have little use for day myself,b ecause I am not presently married or dating, and don't really want to be at this point. I do grow nastalgic for the "good old days" at times, and am reminded of the crushes I had on various girls when I was a kid, and in later life. I also remember the Charlie Brown tv specials. Come to think of it, there was a "Peanuts" tv special to fit every holiday or seasonal mood. I looked forward to those specials with baited breath.
But I'll say again, if not for Charlie Brown, I would likely not even remember Vallentines day.

I agree about St. Patrick's Day. That's one of my personal favs, and I allways cook up a Corned Beef feast, and have my family people over to the house for dinner.
St Patrick's Day is more or less the preview or precurser to Spring & Summer. As for Valentines Day, again, I would probably take it more seriously if I was married or had a gf.
Speaking of Valentines Day, I was talking about this with one of my neighbors a few weeks ago. He bought his wife a box of peanut brittle and a vaccum cleaner for Christmas, but for Valentines Day, he bought her a brand new Cadilack Escilade.
Go figure.

For Valentine's Day... all about candies, flowers and love cards!
For St. Patrick's and St. Paddy's day.... green beer, corned beef with green cabbage and potatoes!
