An Interesting Find at My Grocery Store

Hi Folks:
I was doing my usual grocery shopping yesterday and I came across the item in the photograph below. I was originaly going to post it to the "Hallwoeen Spirits" thread, but then I had 2nd thoughts and thought this should have it's own thread. I do still have that bottle, and I plan to sample it come October. Like I said, I can't really drink a lot because of my gastric bypass, but this looks like it's going to be good. It's apple wine, flavored with nutmeg. The instructions on the bottle suggest that it be served warm, as you would serve Apple Cyder on Halloween. I guess Halloween has grown up a bit.

Some people are alergic to alcohol. Technicaly I'm not supposed to drink because of my gastric bypass.
On a lighter note, I am seeing more and more Halloween themed alcoholic beverages. That was UNHEARD OF when I was a kid. I guess like so many other childhood pleasures, Halloween has done some growing up.

Exactly. When I was a child, most of the adults I encountered had never TOTed themselves. For some time, though, our world has been populated by people who did TOT as kids and who never lost their love of that holiday. Hence the evolving popularity of Halloween for grown-ups.

My wife has a minor allergy to sulfates in wine(if she drinks a lot of it she sneezes) though not enough to make her stop drinking it. I'm glad Halloween has some older proponents now. I am also noticing more houses putting more effort into their Halloween decorations which makes me happy when I drive around.

That makes a lot of sense, because some of the wildest Halloween parties are thrown by adults, and a lot of them are in my age group.

I am severely allergic to sulfates, I go into cardiatric arrest, not good!! Thats why I can't have Wine or Wine Coolers, it took me going to the hospital twice with heart problems before they figured it out, I'm quite lucky to be here, thats for sure!!

Witchy I'm glad you figured it out being alive and not able to drink wine is much better than the alternative...

I'll second what DemonicDuck says. Drinking is NOT the end all to beat all. I've been drunk a few times in my day, and it usualy ends with a wretched hang over and headache, anyway. I am going to sample the HallowWine next Monday, and one of my neighbors is going to come over with his wife and we're all going to drink it together so I don't end up up-ending the whole bottle. After all, it will be Monday, and that's a work night. (narf narf)
But again, as I was saying on another thread, with all the Halloween themed liquor I'm seeing in stores and on line, I really hope that Halloween doesn't end up being like New Years Eve, when there are more drunks on the road then on any other night of the year. I don't even drive to the lcoal grocery store on New Years Eve any more. I make sure that all of my shopping and anything I need is in the house on December 30th, so all I have to do on New Years Eve is get my firecrackers ready for the stroke of midnight.

Holidays bring out stupidity in people(more than normal). It is a simple thing if you're going to get drunk have a designated driver. If everyone realized that instead of "I've only had a few I'll be OK" the roads would be much safer. I lost a friend in college to a drunk driver(he ended up committing suicide before sentencing). Melissa was a sweet person who's life was cut tragically short. Ironically the alcohol that impairs drunk drivers usually protects them(since you're drunk you don't brace yourself as hard and therefore don't receive as bad injuries as you would otherwise)
However even though even alchohol companies are trying to cash in on the rising popularity of Halloween I don't see it becoming a just let's get drunk out of our minds Holiday like NYE or St. Patrick's Day. However since I do serve alcohol at my annual party everyone has the option to stay the night. Though it's not really that kind of party(nor would I want it to be) so that option has never needed to be used.

Demonic Duck, there was a guy I knew who was killed by a drunk driver. Not only was this guy not drinking, he wasn't even DRIVING. He was in his living room, watching tv, when a drunk driver crashed through the wall and killed him.
