My Next Haunted Road Trip

Hi Folks:

Well I was out on my motorcycle yesterday. I managed to get in a couple of hours worth of riding in before the sleet and freezing drizzle brought Winter back with a vengence. Anyway, I was watching an interresting docudrame yesterday evening, and I made my decision right then and there that my next "Haunted Road trip" was going to be to the former layer of a real life monster. The town I'm thinking of is Plainfield Wisconsen, and the monster it was home to back in the 50s was Ed Gein. I tentatively plan to make this trip after Easter, in late April or May, and of course, I will be bringing back plenty of creepy pictures of the cemetery where he use to dig up graves and snatch the dead bodies, and whhere his mother was buried, and where he was buried after dieing in an insane asylum.

For those fo you who don't know, Ed Gein was a grave robber and murderer, who killed two people and butchered their bodies like you would a deer after shooting it. His mother was what the locals refered to as a "harpy," or a very strict religious fanatic, who likelyw as the whole reason for Ed's insanity. At any rate, I'll have more to 'show and tell' when I get back.

Mike.

Unfortunately it will be a while because I don't plan to drive up to Wisconsen in February, but as soon as the weather is nicer, I will be headed down the road. In fact, I may even take a couple of days off so I can really take the place in, and then stop at a beach on Lake Michigan on my way home.

That sounds exciting.....My husband and I love the show Ghost Hunters (TAPS) and every time we go on vacation i look up and see wherever we are going if (TAPS) has been close. We have managed in the past 4 years to visit
1. Waverly Hills Sanatorium (Louisville Ky)
2. St Augustine Light House (St Augustine Florida)
3. Battleship of North Carolina (Wilmington, North Carolina)
4. Ohio State Reformatory AKA Mansfield Prison (Mansfield, Ohio)
5. Alcatraz (San Fransisco California)

I am wanting to go to Salem, Massachusetts. and our next stop is the bed and breakfast that (TAPS) owns it is haunted and we are wanting to go stay there for a weekend! Your trip sounds exciting make sure you take lots of pictures! Enjoy

Ed Gein's story is the story the Texas Chainsaw is "loosely based on"... pretty much the only thing they got correct was the "crazy" and the human-skin furniture and skull bowls. Other than that, it's totally faked! I know Gein was also inspiration for several other horror film characters-- including Hannibal Lecter of Silence of the Lambs fame.

I'm eagerly awaiting your trip! Can't wait to hear all about it!

That sounds very exciting, Halloweenluv. I plan to get to some of those places myself.

Jadewalk, I heard that the Ed Gein story was the basis for "The Texas Chainsaw Massachre" "Psycho" and "Hanibal Lector."

I could be wrong, but that's what I read. "Psycho" is right on the money, though. Ed Gein's mother was a total lunatic from all accounts.

Psycho! I knew there was a third one, but I couldn't remember. You're correct. When I was a pre-teen, I read this book called "Cannibal Killers" and Gein was in there. Guy freaked me out!... but not nearly as much as my "favorite" serial killer-- Albert Fish.

That's cool, Mike! 8) When the weather is warm and nicer then you can go on your haunted road trip. Hopefully you will see what you like, maybe take some photos if necessary. Also, tell us what you see over there. ;)

I'll do better then that. I'll post some of the photos that I take. But as you pointed out, it's going to have to wait untilt he weather is considerable warmer. BUT, it is March, finally, so I don't have too much longer to wait. I would like to go on the motorcycle, however, so it will probably be after Easter, most likely may. My initial plan was to take a long weekend, drive up to Plainfield Wisconsen, spend a day, and maybe hitting another haunted place on the 'flip-flop' home.

Easter is very late this year, but I'm glad. I am hoping that it will be warm enough for me to ride my motorcycle to my brothers house for Easter Dinner.

Easter dinner?? What do you think you all will have for it? I believe we will have smoked ham, but not so sure yet. Of course, we will have deviled eggs! :D Also, I will have colored eggs, so we all can eat boiled eggs! 8)

Easter is at my brothers house this year. My younger sister is going to bring develed eggs, I'm going to bring a Krakaus polish ham, my nieces are bringing an assortment of deserts, my sister in-law is going to do candied yams, and of course there will be corn and garlic mashed potatos, too.
