Pardon my language but, WTF?

Honestly, any haunters in Westport need to have a serious talk with the good Doctor.

"You see the incredible volumes of candy collected — knowing that no one should eat that much — and it just goes into the trash. It just doesn't seem responsible to us."

not in my house it doesnt!

I'll be happy when this "Green" fad is over and we're all back to normal

I don't think it's a fad Spooky, you're out of luck.

I still have a huge tupperware container in my pantry of last years Halloween candy my daughter collected. I'll probably just give that out to trick-or-treaters.

Well, it's all about choice, eh? If somebody wants to give out green treats, no harm in that. When I was a kid it was fun to see what different people were giving out. Some gave out fancy pencils, or little toys. I thought that was pretty cool.

What I miss most was that it was still acceptable at that time to give out HOME MADE cookies, rice crispy treats, popcorn balls or carmel apples. Those were the ultimate treats!

Can't get away with that now.

These people completely miss the point. Yeah, it's bad if kids eat candy every single day. But Halloween is just once a year. Yeah, it makes these people feel better to give out herb seeds, but that's because they've lost the ability to see it from the point of view of trick or treaters. Giving out cr@p treats is selfish and self absorbed. OOooohh, it's all about ME!! Look how environmentally conscious I am! Look how much better I am than you, because I eat healthy stuff!!

Hey, I eat healthy stuff. I don't eat candy every day. If I had kids, they would eat healthy. They wouldn't have candy every day. But on special occasions, that makes the treat even sweeter. Halloween candy has the same amount of fat and sugar and sodium as regular candy, but it's actually healthy, because it's one of those special parts of life that brings you joy and good memories.

It's bad enough that mini candy bars have been downsized so drastically that they are smaller than the chocolates in a Whitman's sampler. Now you're gonna give kids a packet of fricken seeds?!?!? Tell you what... that's the house that needs a good egging. :x

I go to BJ's (like Costco, only with a funnier name) and get the big boxes of full sized candy bars to give out. It's expensive, but I count it as my charitable giving for the year. And I'll tell you something... In rough economic times, where less people are decorating, and less people are giving out anything at all, much less anything good, the trick or treaters who come to my house get the full show. Scary decorations and awesome candy. That's what it's all about.

Boxed raisins have been around for decades. There's something fun about eating raisins from a toy-sized box. And when people actually made stuff to hand out the food was more nutritious. Lately it seems it's all chips and chocolate bars. So I don't mind a little variety.

But these healthy snacks are more suited to lunchboxes than Halloween handouts. Kids can pick and choose and are more likely to toss the healthy stuff.

And seashells aren't bad if they're chocolate seashells.
