The unwilling absence of logic or reason. I contrast faith and insanity by noting that faith is when one makes a conscious choice to abandon the demand for a progression of logic in order to accept a belief that is helpful or beneficial in his or her life. Insanity, on the other hand, is when that leap into irrational belief happens without a conscious decision, as a result of a disorder of the brain.

The clearest mark of insanity is thinking you are sane, and everyone else is crazy. People who are rational enough to think themselves insane usually aren't.
