Rex B. Hamilton invites - Midwest Haunters Convention

Rex B. Hamilton invites you to the Midwest Haunters Convention

July 12, 2006

Greetings, Fellow Haunters:

Please join me this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the 2006 edition of the Midwest Haunters Convention. The location is larger and more convenient than ever before: the Columbus Convention center, right in the center of Ohio’s capital city. The convention center is directly attached to the Hyatt Regency hotel, site of some of the weekend’s social activities. You don’t need to walk outside to get from one building to the other.

The convention floor of 46 vendor booths sold out more than a month ago. Attendees can browse the vendor area, watch the Saturday Monster Make-up Wars and place your bids at the Sunday haunted auction without paying any admission. There are fees for the haunt tour, costume ball, seminars and a few other items. Make sure you examine the official Web site - http://www.midwesthauntersconvention.com. There are many activities to choose from this weekend.

What will I be up to? Plenty. On Friday afternoon, Geoff “Arachnid” Beck and Todd “Horrificus” Poole have asked me to stop by for an hour and work with their students in their all-day “Complete Character Building” seminar.

The Friday night bus tour sounds like fun. The first stop is a behind-the-scenes reception at animatronic and prop-maker Scareparts. Next is a call on Costume Specialists, one the biggest costume and make-up shops in Columbus. Finally there is a tour of working haunt - Dead Acres. I’ve never seen Dead Acres (or its predecessor, Haunted Hoochie) so I look forward to this event.

Saturday will be an adventure. We had hoped to bring you another Webcast from the convention floor, but we’ve been unable to nail down an Internet Service Provider who can host the video feed on the ‘Net. We’re still trying. If we’re successful, the Webcast will run from 10 to 11 AM. Regardless, I will roam the convention floor, welcome visitors to Ohio and spread as much dark cheer as I can. I’ll also pop in on some of the seminars - there are quite a number of speakers whom I want to learn from.

The Monster Make-up Wars take place from 4:30 to 6 PM. I will be one of the five models. My fellow Scabs Jeff “Samhain” Glatzer and Tawny “Adolphia” Miller will do their best to make me atrocious. Amusingly enough, another team stars the other two Scabs - Roger “Ichabod” Miller and Geoff “Arachnid” Beck. All four of them are talented artists. It will be quite interesting to see who wins this “Battle of the Scabs.”

My annual Haunted Photo Shoot, which I told you about in a previous message, takes place from 8 till 10 PM. It will be my pleasure to take wonderful photographs of you. The cost is $15 per person. The Lawnscare Masquerade Party, complete with costume contest and the Ms. Scary Ohio beauty (ugly?) pageant, runs from 9 PM till Midnight.

Sunday should be another day of haunted fun. Besides the trade show all day, there is a late-morning auction and afternoon seminars. My big job that day is to teach my “Five Great Haunted Publicity Events” class right after lunch. I will give you some good ideas on how to publicize your show for very little money.

Producers Neena Robinson Collins, Barry Schieferstein, Kathy Schieferstein and Kelly Collins have done us Ohioans proud by offering you haunters a weekend filled with opportunities to learn and laugh.

We welcome you to our fair state and we cordially invite you to attend.

Very truly yours,

Rex B. Hamilton
