A Poem for Each Day until Halloween

Post by Haunted Horseman » Mon Sep 03, 2007 7:27 pm

How about we write a poem for each day from now until Halloween? I'll start it off.

September third arrived with a mixture of summer and fall,
The morning was cool and clear but the midday heat wouldn't stall;
Not many colored leaves but many an acorn could be found,
Thoughts of Halloween filled my head as a cool breeze came around.

Corny, I know, but what do you expect, its only September 3rd. :wink:

*giggles* I think this is a lovely idea! I look forward to seeing what new poetry ensues, and hopefully writing one of my own to join in the fun! :D

Oh Hither Haste on Halloween
Where Woodland Witches Wait
Where silent Sheeted Ghosts are seen
Oh what shall be your Fate
Wild Winds thou shalt blow
carry away my saddened soul
tis the time of Judgement

Yeah, spookyboo!

Can you hear it?
What's that sound?
Little feet patter
On the ground.

Can you hear it?
Sounds so sweet!
Little voices call:
Trick or Treat!!!

The morrow was a bright September morn;
The earth was beautiful as if newborn;
There was nameless splendor everywhere,
That wild exhilaration in the air,
Which makes the passers in the city street
Congratulate each other as they meet.

After Labor Day

As the long hot summer begins to yawn,
Autumn stirs to an awaking dawn:
Heat and haze step aside at last,
As cooling winds are arriving fast;
Birds of summer ready their wings,
On the southern jet stream all hope clings;
Woodland creatures prepare their stock,
For Winter's power they dare not mock;
It's back to work for human kind,
And a hard adjustment most will find;
But we welcome the changes with a sounding cheer,
For we all know, Halloween will soon be here.

It's early September
and with this heat
it can be hard to remember
soon will be the time for trick or treat

The leaves aren't changing
no cool breezes on a hot day
but you won't hear me complain
cause I'm jonesin' on a pumpkin spiced latte!

Spookyboo, Mhooch, Dr Strange...nice work! With a little practice, we will all soon be in the category of Cadervino's Longfellow. Hummm...maybe not. It's fun anyway.

Halloween Tree

Long Bare branches reach out to hold the heavens
while white starlight dances between twig fingers
in the velvety folds of the darkest night
Deep rolling roots snared and tangling
cling lovingly in embrace to musky dirt giving life
while marred rutted bark chronicling ancient passage
of times onward march to deaths own delight

You're right SpookyBoo, I almost forgot. Here's a quick and bad one:

September 5th was a day not to miss,
I spent most the day making a Halloween list;
Ghosts and Goblins, Witches and Cats,
Pumpkins and vampires, skeletons and Bats;
These thoughts got me going and I couldn't stop,
I grabbed a knife and pumpkin and started to chop;
With all the excitement I completely forgot,
By Halloween night my JOL would certainly rot!

Ooops!

:roll:
