Actually NeverMore, I watch & enjoy the Superbowl! I haven't been able to watch the NFL as much over the last few years due to my shifts, but we have the season on SKY Sports & also another channel over here. I do like the Superbowl though. My wife bought me a New England Patriots shirt one year.NeverMore wrote:Superbowl?!?Jack Skellington wrote:I find things to look forward to throughout the year also. I would love to get to Wembley one year to watch it.

Now it's 13 days and 11 months. As for the Superbowl, I am only slightly interested in it if the Chicago Bears make it, and that's only because my two brothers are such avid Bears fans. I, personaly, am not really into team sports at all. I use to play some "back yard Baseball" when I was a kid, and all though I stunk at it, I enjoyed it, but I never got into the pro or school teams.
Standing on the side lines or sitting in the bleachers is not for me.

I think it would be better for all of us if we participated in some sport rather than watching other people play it. However, I do sometimes enjoy watching local teams (including the Titans) play.

Re: 2012 HALLOWEEN COUNT DOWN!!!
Murf, on ocassion, I do get interested in a good Baseball game, but that's very rare. Truth be told, the only time I even have any sporting events on tv, is when my brothers or my friends are over. My brothers are avid football fans, so if the Bears or Notre Dame are playing, I'll put the game on for them and I'll root for the team. If my friends, who are avid Baseball fans, both Sox and Cubs, are over, and there's a Baseball game on, I will do likewise, put the game on and chear for the team. I guess it's easier for me to be a "fan" when I have friends to share it with. I would never sit through a sporting event alone.
As for playing sports, I played a little 'back yeard" Baseball, and I also had a Basketball Hoop mounted to the door of the garage at the house where I lived, and my buddies and I also use to "shoot hoops" from time to time, but with poor cordination brought on by poor eye sight, I was a mediocre athlete at best. The only sport I was ever half way decent at, and there were plenty of others who were a lot better, was Karate. I took Karate when I was a child, and "Thia Kwon Do" when I was in my 30s, and I was what you would call "fair to midland," but I was no olympic champ. BUT, I was a better Karatica and Thia Kwon Doist then I ever was a Baseball or Basketball player. Oh, and I did play some 'back yeard' Football, too, but again, I was just not "Football" material.

Re: 2012 HALLOWEEN COUNT DOWN!!!
We're not an athletic family, but my middle boy did play football at school in 8th & 9th grades, then wrestled in 9th & 10th. He earned a varsity letter in wrestling, mainly because he was the only person at his (low) weight who stuck with the team through the season finals. I understand that wrestling is big in the Midwest, and maybe the Plains states, but around here it is not much supported. Everything here is football.
My older boy is a very talented swimmer, although he never participated on a team. But he continues to swim for fitness quite regularly at school. He also rides bikes a lot, but again, more for transportation and fun, not with a team. He does follow football, though.

I kinda like the Superbowl even though I'm not a football fan at all (and in Texas, football is king). The commercials are amusing, but it's the eating that I look forward to
I'm a die-hard hockey fan. I did get into basketball and baseball this past season a little bit though--it was exciting that The Mavs won the title and the Rangers came so incredibly close.

Re: 2012 HALLOWEEN COUNT DOWN!!!
We have an NHL team here, the Predators. I have been to a few of their games over the years. Hockey is less popular here than football is, obviously, so it's easier to afford the tickets.
One time, though, we were given tickets fairly close to the ice, and my husband was actually hit in the hip by a hockey puck before he sat down! They were warming up pre-game, and we were in the end-zone. Since then we haven't wanted to get anywhere near the ice!
My husband doesn't follow baseball much now, but he was a fan growing up. When we lived outside Atlanta, we went to a few of the Braves' games. Occasionally we have been to the Nashville Sounds games here (currently a farm team for the Brewers).
My husband and boys have all seen the Titans play, but I never have. Those tickets are out of sight!

Oh I know about football tickets! Those things are insane! Especially now that "Jerry-World" has been built. My company has season seats that they give to clients and they aren't terribly close but they are $350 a piece! And parking is outrageous too. My brother and dad went to a game a few weeks ago and they had to pay $40 bucks to park in a restaurant parking lot and then hike forever to get to the stadium. I've heard that in some places it's like $75 to park. No thanks.Murfreesboro wrote:We have an NHL team here, the Predators. I have been to a few of their games over the years. Sitting next to the glass or right on the ice at hocket games is overrated to me. I like being in the lower level, but you need to be a few rows back to really see all the action properly. I like about 8 or 9 rows back. One time my boss gave me his seats to a game that were at center ice about 12 or 13 rows back and those were PERFECT! Incredible view of everything and no real danger of getting hit with a puck

As big a fan my brother is, he actualy hates going to the actual games. He much prefers to stay at home in his nice warm house and watch the game on tv. In a way I do n't blam him, though.
I use to be an AVID Chicago Black Hawks (hockey) fan when I was a kid. My buddies and I would watch the game every Saturday night on WGN tv, and thhen they would go home and I would watch "Creature Features," hosted by Ernie Bishop. I stopped being a fan, however, because of the lousy sportsmanship I saw demonstrated in later games.
