My son and I always got out to this farm and pick out tons of pumkins. Then go in to their store and get apple cider slushies. They are sooo good. It always a good day. I also watch Hocus Pocus during the month of October a couple of times. And Decorate as early as my husband lets me. Right now we are starting a new tradition... everynight when we get home we watch X-files. starting from the first one. (we bought the seasons.) so far we are only 5 episodes in.

I usually go the Shriners Haunted House..it's helps the fellow Masons and is a good cause...(I'm an 18th degree Mason and the Master of our lodge twice..) been taking the kids there since they were littte...pretty soon I can start taking my grand daughter..maybe this year..
Also have to read THE BODYSNATCHERS by Robert Louis Stevenson, along with THE BOTTLE IMP. THE BODYSNATCHERS was a nearly perfect horror film made by Val Lewton, and the story is great...My Grandfather used to tell me THE BOTTLE IMP on his own during the milk run we used to do...(yes, we literally used to deliver milk together...)
During most of the weekends, I take the kids costume hunting at the four or five places we dig..the one costume store has to be visited about four weekends running, or it wouldn't be Halloween.
Movies I have to see;
NOSFERATU
DR. CALIGARI
PLAN NINE FROM OUTER SPACE.
any of the Bela Lugosi serials, usually THE PHANTOM CREEPS or THE RETURN OF CHANDU.
CARNIVAL OF SOULS.
THE GHOUL (Karloff version..the scene where he carves the intials into his chest is still a stunner.

Sinister Cinema used to have one of the best collections of trailers for sale EVER..when the had a briefly run Canadian arm of the company, they came out with a six volume greatest hits set that ran an hour each..I tape them onto three vhs tapes and run those for myself or a party..

My Halloween tape of greatest songs has to run in the car.

Each Halloween day I love to go for a walk and take in the season on the Rotary Trail, it's a peaceful place where you can take in the Fall Season in all it's glory, I find it really helps to ground me and bring things into perspective. I also like to send a Halloween gift each year to someone who needs cheering up, and I always buy something for a complete Stranger "My Random Act of Kindness on Halloween Day" I do this year round, but Halloween is special cause I pick out something only Halloweeenish. I also like to buy a little something for my sweetheart on Halloween.
I put out my Red porch light, or Orange when I can find one. Decorate a little, and of course watch " Practical Magic"
Do my volunteering for Animal Safety and protection for Halloween night. Take something festive to our Homeless Center, some little decoration and food.
But really, I don't know if I do anything ritual over the past couple of years, depends on how I'm feeling. Of course I get ready for all the little munchkins that arrive in hoards.
I'm sure there's more, but thats it for now :)

Nos I see we share a common interest, except that I don't go out to the dessert, I just stay home and dig up the back yard and pick which cruel evil person in our complex I should take care of first

Hey, is that Mc Cullochs by Kellogs? If so, what a sweet place! I also find the Value Village on Wellington has some great costumes!
Do I SCARE you?

Me and the Mrs dress up as Michael Meyers and a Witch and we hand out candy..... we have the fog machine running as our front yard is covered in tomb stones and 6 inches of fog..... we have a strobe light running behind the giant spider web and the boombox with 2 hours of halloween theme songs playing.... then later on we always watch John Carpenters Halloween.

that's right, spooky sam...
a London tradition...
we used to have THAT PARTY PLACE on York, but it died...
And try TALIZE where the old K Mart on Highbury/Huron used to be, it has the same Halloween stuff from the company that used to outfit VALUE VILLAGE....they switched jobbers a few years ago, but the lady in the black leather cat suit holding the hand cuffs and the doctor with the needle is a dead giveaway and should jog the memory..
there's a cool cool used book/record/video store in Stratford that is also worth the drive...along with a couple of indie places that will blow the mind..
Future events such as these will effect you in the future

I usually go trick-or-treating with my friend and her kids, since I don't have any yet. It makes me smile to see them all excited and in their costumes. I remember how excited I used to get!
