Growing up, we lived on a farm and the morning after, you would usually wake up to being by yourself, with bright sun and bare fields and trees...the last crops would be coming off...somtimes some field corn...most of the leaves had fallen. The costumes would be on the box in the corner waiting to go back upstairs to the attic. It was understood NOT to touch them. Mom BARELY tolerated Halloween.
And everyday the bag of Halloween candy would get smaller..and if you ate too much, it would be handed out to you..
In short..I know where you are coming from.
Myself...I start Christmas shopping NOW to get it DONE so I can enjoy the holidays...that sort of puts me into mode of looking forward to the next holiday..a modest version of what DoD talks about up above me.
I also try to enjoy the accomplishments of what we did..repair any rips in the equipment... and leave my mind open for next years ideas..this ties in with the mention of some of the sales you can get starting Nov. 01, I'll wander around the stores and see if they can give me any great ideas for next year and to start to work on them in my mind...not go whole hog right away, but just to mull them over and let the unconscious take a gander.
By not forcing the issue, the mind startrs to spend more time on THAT and less time on halloween's end...
To keep it light, I usually watch those vintage Looney Tune cartoons, and pull out my blopper tapes and retro commercials..I used to be in the biz, so it's kind of fun seeing how FRED FLINTSTONE used to be used to sell WINSTON cigarettes...I have a whole tape of just COCA COLA commercials...yes, including 'Id like to teach the world to sing" etc...and I toss on lots of comedies along with the usual horror flicks that are on at my place anyway...BLACK SUNDAY and BLACK SABBATH for sure, THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN'T DIE...usually the NOSTRADMUS series...for comedy the Elvira and Mel Brooks stuff...it goes from there...sometimes it's something like Welles or Leone, or Kurosawa just for the sheer BEAUTY of the films...a couple of meals out with Baby Brother at a great Italian or chinese place also helps..flea markets, comic stores...looking for cool gag gifts to give to people...these help..

Future events such as these will effect you in the future
It really bites that people would show up without a costume and then leave early, talk about a let down. We have a friend whose birthday is on Halloween, and she could care less. Can you imagine?!? I would love for my birthday to be on Halloween, it would be the bash of the year! I've already told our circle of friends to be ready this October because a "costume mandatory" party is coming soon!mandy0221 wrote:I had the blues after my halloween party last year. Half the invitees did not wear costumes, a few only stayed for a half an hour or so and most people left early because they had places to be. Made me sad that people didnt really enjoy the holiday as much as I do.
After Halloween of course I am sad but it is still fall and I like grabbing all of the goodies and talking on here. Luckily I get to look forward to Christmas and then after christmas is when I really get sad. I almost want to do a halloween in april party!!!
