Spooky, I am not offended, so please don't get me wrong. It does sound like an embellished story, and I definately understand your skepticism. The "Friendly Skies" of United Airlines were having labor union troubles back then. To boot, a lot of comercial ar carriers were having revenue problems due in part to the ecconomy and in part due to their horible customer service. It was totaly screwed up back then. Today, in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, it's much worse. In addition to all the over booking, inefficiency, lousy customer service and lost luggage, you have to get to the airport 3 hours MINIMUM before your flight departs to go through all kinds of security check points. What was a very frustrating ordeal way back then, is now 100 times more frustrating with all the rigum a roll you have to go through just to get on the plane. I'm not proud of this, but patience has never been one of my most out standing virtues. I do not like to be frustrated, and poor customer service is something that frustrates and agrivates me to no end. So I just won't do business with them. I'll take my car or bike or even the Amtrak, but I won't do business with the airlines industry.

I realize that a lot of people are happy with air carriers like Southwest Airlines, and if you can afford a first or business class ticket, you don't have to deal with the overboking and other namby pamby problems, but you still have to go through all the security check points, and it takes hours. Again, I hate to wait and I hate inconvenience. I would much rather spend 36 hours on my Harley then 2 hours in an air terminal or a security check point waiting.

Mike

Just don't fly American Airlines, Their flight attendants are known for treating the passengers badly.

Hey Mike, you should tell the folks over at Lifehacker about that. Just don't badmouth Southwest Airlines.

Thanks for the tips, folks. If I actualy do have to travel by air due to a death in the family or the necessity of a timley arrival, I will probably go with South West, because they do have a good rep. But no air line has power over Home Land Security. So if I need to get some place in a hurry due to an emergency, then I'll fly, but when I go on vacation, I'll take the car or the bike. Besides, I like to drive my car, and I LOVE to ride my Harley.

Mike
