Re: Decorations and candy are out!
Borders was a good for that I had always thought they did a good business but I suppose they were to slow to adopt the digital age. Castle Cracker Barrel is on my list of shops to hit. Along with taking more time at Home Goods since I ran in and out and only saw that they do have their Halloween stuff out but couldn't look through it.

Re: Decorations and candy are out!
I'm sorry, but isn't August a little early for the candy? I mean, no one, seriously, is going to buy candy in August and save it for Halloween. I guess they are just counting on people to buy the candy and eat it for months, replenishing the supply.
Then again, the last couple of years I have seen Eaqster candy for sale before New Year's, even though Easter was in April both years. So I gues the candy makers are just that desperate to keep people buying.

I like seeing the Halloween stuff out so early, it's a nice change of pace to seeing Christmas stuff out three months before Christmas

Pretty sure nothing will turn up around here until after Labor Day.

Re: Decorations and candy are out!
Doesn't most of the candy keep for a really long time though? I haven't looked for any yet so I don't know if it's out around here. Michaels and Garden Ridge have had their Halloween stuff out for most of August. Spirit and a few other seasonal stores should be opening up in September. My sister and I went to Target yesterday in hopes of seeing some fun stuff, but it's still all about Back to School right now. Maybe this weekend or after Labor Day...

Re: Decorations and candy are out!
Candy can get stale if kept for to long a time, but that's usual a year or longer. Besides, a lot of people will eat the candy long before October (case in point, me.) and will have to go out and buy more for Halloween.
As for the decorations, those usualy are out in the last week of August and are sold all through September and most of October. Towards the middle of October, long before the actual Halloween, Christmas decorations and items are already on the display shelvs. Last year when I went to purchase my Grim Reaper Eschange gift, the store was already stocked with artificial Christmas trees, candy canes, ornemants and the like, and Christmas music was playing over the Muzak system.

Re: Decorations and candy are out!
Sorry...I buy hard candy when it goes on sale after Halloween and keep it all year. I have so many TOT's at halloween, I wouldn't be able to do it otherwise. We make up 260 bags of candy, whatever I find on sale thru the year, and the good stuff that I buy at Halloween. My theme is 2 'good' (chocolate) candies, and 3 'crappy' candies (pixie sticks, jolly rogers, etc). Plus, I have the last bucket of all the hard stuff for the ones who straggle in later. Every time I see candy on sale (theme appropriate, of course) I buy a bag or two. For the Nightmare before Christmas theme, I also had candy canes in the bags

RisingDeadMan, "Yuck" is right. Who wants to listen to 40 renditions of "Jingle Bells) and 93 renditions of "Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer" while shopping for Halloween decorations? I sure dont.
NeverMore, I really liked that joke you posted about the lot numbers and the candy detectives.
Johnsenliza, hard candy keeps virtualy for ever. I have left over candy canes from Christmas of 09, which are still very edible. They're sealed in individual plastic pouches so that keeps them fresh. Butter Scotch, Peppermint Drops, Spearming Drops, and other fruit flavored hard candies like Life Savers, hole up quite well over time.

Garden Ridge and Michaels are putting out stuff here too. I really wish I could afford all those neat Spooky Town things that are made by Lemax. I've got a couple but would wind up in the poor house if I got all the ones I wanted

Re: Decorations and candy are out!
I love the Spooky Town displays in the stores, but I have too much stuff as it is and not enough room to store/display things.
