Yeah that's true!

Other people in my town had Jack O'Lanterns carved & some decorations but no-one in my street did! :x

It does sound as if the Halloween spirit is growing across the pond, though, Jack. You just need to be persistent. It starts small, then it snowballs. :D

If it snowballs enough, I may move across the pond just to be apart of it! It doesn't appear that it will ever happen in my area

I'm in a suburb of Dallas.

There really ought to be something going on in Dallas. You must just be stuck in a dull neighborhood. Is it very upscale? That is sometimes a problem, I think. People who are "keeping up with the Joneses" can be sticks in the mud about holiday decorations. They are too afraid of being thought tacky.

Sometimes it is also a problem if you live in a neighborhood where most of the children have grown up already. The celebrations get scaled back then.

I would work at making my place the "destination house" of the street. It sounds like you are already doing that. At some point, someone else may move in and like the idea of joining you. Good luck!

Oh it most certainly is! The supermarkets & fancy dress stores stock more & more merchandise every year. I even brought some great decorations in a garden centre this year!

I said in a previous thread a while back that I believe it's only a matter of time before we have a dedicated store! Although it'll probably end up in London! :x

I do dislike the "Halloween Grinches" though!

There are always a few Halloween Grinches. Sometimes they are (IMO overly-zealous) Evangelicals. Sometimes they are just people who think it is "kid stuff" and inappropriate for anyone over the age of 10 or 12. The latter group mistakenly believes that Halloween is just about greed for candy and nothing more.

Speaking of merchandise, it seems that when ever I walk into a store in October, it's hard to find the Halloween decorations for all the Christmas items. When I went to the Family Dollar to shop for my 'grim reaper' person, the first thing that caught my attention was the song "Deck the Halls" playing over the store Muzak system, and my eyes were imediately greeted by 3 rows of Christmas trees, Christmas lights, ornaments, Santa Clauses, Reindeer, Snowmen, etc, etc, etc. There was ONE row of Halloween decorations.

Go figure.

Yes, I see Christmas merchandise in stores prior to Halloween as well, though I don't think I've heard any carols yet.

It's the same over here too. The stores just can't wait to get their Christmas decorations out! :x I haven't heard any carols in stores yet, however the TV adverts have had a few advertising various different gifts!

Right now, almost every other tv comercial is a Christmas themed comercial. And the local Family Dollar in my town has been playing Christmas carols over their Muzak system since early October, and what really got me is that they had at least 3 times as much Christmas merchandise as they had Halloween merchandise. I can understand that when it's November and after Halloween, but during October, let's celebrate HALLOWEEN!!

And out of all that Holiday spirit, I almost NEVER see any Thanksgiving decorations at that store, and I NEVER see any 4th of July decorations at any store, ever.

It seems to me that some retailers in both the USA & UK would love to sell nothing but Christmas decorations in their holiday aisle! :x

There actually used to be a store in my town called Always Christmas :puker: . I never had a desire to go in there to see what it was all about. Yesterday I wandered into a Hallmark in search of some specific wrapping paper for a birthday gift and I ran across a Jack Skellington Christmas Tree ornament. I think I may buy it next week. It will be the one thing that I contribute to the family Christmas tree (and you know what else? It will be the coolest thing on that tree as well!) 8)

I have seen year-round Christmas stores, though I haven't been to any lately.
