Where Is The Most Haunted Place You Have Been To???

These are not haunted attractions. These are authentic haunted places in Illinois. The Bartonville Insane Asylum was an institution that housed menatly ill people where electro shock and other forms of torture were practiced. Bachelor Grove Cemetery is supposedly where satanic masses were practiced. It's also a place where various ghosts have been seen, over 100 different to be exact. There are a lot of stories associated with both places, but as for them being opened, niether one of them is officialy opened to the public. The Bartonville Insane Asylum was labled as an "Asbestos hazzard," and sealed by the county. It's owned by a private individual who does want to open it to the public as a museum and haunted attraction some day, but he's having problems with the local politicians who want to tear it down and put in a parking lot or something of that stupid nature. Tear it down in the name of so called "Progress" in other words.

The Bachelor Grove Cemetery is visited, on ocassion by people who actualy have loved ones buried there, but the very last burial to take place at Bachelor Grove was in 1965, and the cemetery has fallen into a state of disrepair. At it's worst, grave were dug up and bones were left lieing about, and used in satanic rituals and the like. The police started cracking down, and the graves were since closed up, but people, ghost hunters likeme, on ocassion will visit Bachelor Grove for a few pictures in the hopes of seeing a ghost or two. There is also the Bachelor Grove woods, which is also said to be haunted and frequented by witches, and the pond next to the cemetery was rumored (this could be an 'urban lenend') to have been used by Al Capone's cronies as a dumping ground for guys who they "took for a ride" back in the "Roaring 20s," when Chicago was THE place to be for illegal liquor.

All stories aside, I might be able to get away, to a limited extent, with visiting places like these, because I'm an old fromp with a camera, and I never take anything but pictires and leave nothing but foot prints. Younger people, especialy teenagers, on the other hand, may come to more serious grief, so I would advise that you any of you young people do decide to make a trip to Bartonville or Bachelors Grove, it would be advisable that you leave the liquor and any other intoxicant at home. Bring a camera, and try to keep the group size to no more then two people.

If you have a large group of young people, some one might think you're a group of partyers who are there to drink, comit acts of valdlism and bring in unwanted attention. If it's only one or two people and all that's taken is photos, then it's LESS LIKELY that some one will call the police on you, but I use the term LESS LIKELY. The reason is because some of the people who live in these areas don't like it when people gawk at the provervial skeletons that are in the town closet. Take Bartonville, for instance. Bartonville is a nice town, and the people who live there are decent, normal, intelligent folks who work for their living like everyone else. Some of them takt it to heart when the only reason anyone wants to visit their town is to gawk at that old insane asylum. Some horrendous attrocities were committed in that place. Things that the people of Bartonville are not proud of, and would not like to have people gawk at. In a way I can't blame them, but then again, the way I look at it is that insane asylumes and the treatments that went on inside of them are part of history, and we shouldn't just erase them from our memories simply because they're unpleasant. Almost every community has negative information in their back grounds.

In the case of Bachelor Grove, I can most certainly understand why some one who have loved ones burried there would be resentful of those who knock over the head stons, dig up the skeletons and generaly disrespect their loved ones by holding satanic rituals and the like. Most people, everyone I know, in fact, who burries some one does so in the hopes that the person burried will meet with him in Heaven when the time comes. They woule rightfully feel resentment when some digs up their uncle, fathers, or who'ever's skull to be used as an inplement for a ceremony that gives homage to the devil. I would be very angry of some one disturbed my parents graves out at the St. James Sag.

The point is, be respectful. Be careful, but most of all, be tactful. When ever you enter some one's property without their permission, you are illegaly tresspassing on their land. MANY people take great exception to that. Usualy, if you are visiting a cemetery, however, and you act respectfully, take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints, then chances are you won't run into any trouble. If some one does ask you to leave, apologise and leave imediately and respectfully. If you can obtain permission from any private owners, that's the best way to go. I am presently trying to get permission from the owner of the old Bartonville Insane Asylum to get some interior photos. There are also a few other places that I am working towards getting permission to visit.

So all I'm saying, is it's all in your attitude. Walk into any abandoned place with a 12 pack of beer, spray paint and a roudy attitude, and you will undoubetedly run into trouble, and I would head up the linch mob myself if I saw a group of teenagers drinking and partying at a place that I held sacred, like the St. James Sag. Just a few things to think about.

OHH the Winchester would be great. I guess the most haunted place ive been too is in Old Town San Diego. The Whaley House. After looking in the windows at night the next day we decided to take the Haunted San Diego Tour. It was very cool.

My next door neighbor hung himself two summers ago, and I had to smell his rotting cadaver for weeks before I realized he was dead. Now my brother lives next door to me and he says his bedroom door (that the guy hung himself on) is always opening and closing when the windows are shut.
Also I happen to live in one of the most haunted cities around, everything here is old.. there is a castle, so many stories

That definitely fits the creepy bill...I'm sure the smell part was not fun.

I don't know how many people have actually smelled decomposing flesh, but there is almost nothing as disgusting. I couldn't even have my front window open a crack without the smell seeping in. Also, for gruesome quality, did I mention his dog had started to eat him? poor thing had to be put down.

That is incredible. I know that a lot of Geoffry Dalmer's neighbors had to smell that, and they thought it was a dead rat, whild others thought it was meat that had gone bad. It was the same siautaion with John Wayne Gacey. The stench of death was so gruesome it actualy caused some people to move out of the neighborhood, and Gacey's house was constantly overrun by cockroaches.

I do know a little of what a decomposing body smells like. By the way, those fumes are also poisenous.
