What do you think? Orange Tuesday?
BuyCostumes.com is trying to start an equivalent to Black Friday for Halloween. The day after Labor Day. Do y'all think it's a good idea? Think it will catch on? I doubt other retailers will jump on just because they trademarked the term. At least BuyCostumes.com will be discounting their stuff on Sept 3rd so that would be a good time to buy from them.

Spooky, they're trying to set a start day for the Hallowseason, just like Black Friday sorta officially starts that other holiday. A lot of responses I'm reading are people saying, "ugh, Halloween in September. Too early". Yet I see merchandise for the santa season in stores already. I guess it wouldn't be bad to see a discount day before Halloween so you can pick up stuff cheap that you couldn't find afterwards last year.

Oh, every parent knows that kids change their minds about costumes. Heck, they change their minds about what they want for Christmas, so that it is really risky to start your Christmas shopping too early.
If the only thing about Halloween shopping were the kids' costumes, I could certainly agree with that mom's point. However, for many of us the season involves much more than dressing up the kids. (My youngest is now 16. I no longer spend anything on kids' costumes, but I still buy for the season.) Consequently it makes sense to start early on those things you can afford to buy early.
As for the kiddies' changing whims--that mother should be happy that her child is so imaginative and so into reading, etc. I mean, I understand the expense of it, but I also see an up-side. And it sounds as if her daughter is really indulged, too. What if she were to challenge her daughter to make her own costume?

Ha! Make their own costumes. That's a technique from a bygone era, though some people still practice it. Most of the best costumes you see at Comic-Con are home grown. Seems to me these people pushing Orange Tuesday should concentrate on Booing and other gift giving practices for Halloween over decor and costumes. That's what makes Black Friday and Cyber Monday so huge.

If It wasn't buycostumes.com trying to trademark it etc, I'd think it was fine - except maybe not so early.

I will have to check it out! Hopefully I can pick up a cool looking scarecrow!
I just can't wait until next Halloween,
'Cause I've got some new ideas
that will really make them scream!
And, by God, I'm really gonna give it all my might!

Thanx for posting this, I had no idea. Yeah, I'll certain check it out. Actually, if you check out the comments section on the editorial about kids changing their minds, apparently, the web-site offers free exchanges. That's kind of cool, too.
We're the farmer's scarecrows
We scare away the birds,
We keep the farmer's corn safe
Without any words.
But when Halloween comes
We jump out of the ground
And we scare the boys and girls
When they come walking 'round.

Now I do wonder is this deal on just costumes alone or is it every item they have?

I think it said in the original article they were going to have other items for sale.
